Shimano 50 Series Bc Reels

Featured Replies

What is the heaviest bait you can throw on these reels before you need to step up to a 100/200 size reel ? Is 3/8-1/2oz about the max ? Thanks for any info.

They will probably handle just about anything a 100/200 size reel will. Line capicity will be the main difference. I have a Chronarch 50E and a Chronarch 200E7 and they are great reels.

As jbsoonerfan said it is going to handle all baits very well and the only difference will be the amount of line the reel can hold. For the majority of bass fishing a 50 series reel will be just fine. Another noticeable thing will be the body size will be a little smaller and a little less weight.

No issues other than line capacity if you use a thick diameter like 20+ lb mono or fluoro.

I have (2) Vintage Chronarch 50Mg, Core 50, Curado 50E. I prefer this size reel, it is

VERY comfortable for me!

Thanks for the info guys  :drinking-10:

I love the Shimano 50's. I have a Core, 3 curados and a Chronarch E. I find them much more comfortable to fish than my old Curado D series and am slowly changing over as money comes available. I use either braid or light flourocarbon up to 12 lb and have never found line capacity to be a drawback.

They should have never stopped making the 51mg Chronarch. Best light pitching reel I have ever used.

Debating between a used Curado 50E and the TW Chronarch 50E currently on sale. Seems like a no brainer because they are only about $15-$20 difference price-wise, but some reviews say the Chronarch E isn't built quite as well as the Curado E?

I thought these were essentially the same reel?

Ive read a few threads that said the samething, the curado and chronarch are the same reel with just a different paintjob. So i couldnt pass on a chronarch for $150 at TW so now ill have a curado, chronarch, and core to play around with this year. All will have hawgtech handles and probally 10lb flouro or mono.

Just another vote for "no worries on casting heavier baits" with a 50 sized reel. Last year I was tossing baits that were pushing 1/2 oz or so and just sending these things crazy far distances. I had 12 # floro on it and never felt the need for a larger size reel. I think you will be pleased with the versatility of your new 50 series reels.

Hooligan,

You need to save up your pennies and get yourself a Conquest 50 . The next thing you know you will be setting your spinning reels aside and become a full blown Baitcaster kind of guy...... :smile3:

I have both and have to say that I prefer the Chronarch just a tad more. Not going to lose either way, but I would feel safe saying a Chronarch E is NOT a step down from a Curado E.

I only have one 50 size Shimano at the moment, a Curado 51E but I'm right in line with the other guys. It can handle anything you want to use it for, its only limiting factor being line capacity.

They are almost exactly the same reel. Built with the same parts, using the same molds to make the parts, in the same factory. No worries at all between the two. Pick which color you like best and go for it. I personally like the dark green of the Curado best but that's up to each person to decide for themselves. Good luck.

I did the same!  Bought the Chronarch 50E off TW for $150!  Already have a Curado 50E so I'll get to compare.  I liked the 50E so much I wanted another one....and this was a perfect opportunity.

Also got the Powell Max 702 Cast for $75 to put it on!!  They are already sold out!  Glad I made a quick decision this morning.

Nice.

Im gonna put the chronarch on my 6'3 medium cumara reaction rod, ill probally just throw 1/4 lipless cranks and smaller crankbaits. Then the core is going on the 6'5 cumulus, im really excited to get out there with that combo, its gonna be so d**n light. Ill probally throw jerkbaits and topwater.

So that means i need to find a rod for the curado, i have my eye on a 6'10 crucial spinnerbait rod, it feels perfect for 3/8-5/8oz baits...

I was checking out a Ch50E today

The knobs(which I like) on the Chronarch 50E are bigger than the Core/Curado knobs. Do you know if those knobs are direct fit on the Core?

Bought the same rod this morning to pair to one of my 3 Curado 50e's. Can't pass up a good sale! Just started Bass fishing last fall and have already dumped the low end combo's and bought 3 50e, 1 200e5 and still looking. Now I just have to start buying some decent rods to go with them. Currently have a MH Carrot micro (great feel but worried after reading posts) MH Sellus and the rods off my previous combos. I have my eye on the Phenix M1 but waiting for a sale.

There isn't really a weight limit to these little reels.  I've got a few of them.  There is a line capacity limit.  So if you want to throw a heavier weight a longer distance, there are probably better reel choices out there.

On my current primary bubba drop shot set up, I've got a Curado 50 E on a Kistler flipping stick.  This reel handles 20 lb Abrazax and half ounce drop shot weights fine.  No issues.

Couldn't resist. Bought the Chronarch 50E......

......then went on eBay and bought a Lew's Tournament Pro.

I'm gonna be in trouble.

Haha, nice, I don't feel so bad now, lol.

Yea, yea.

Hoping she doesn't see the packages on the porch because she gets home before me everyday! I better be extra nice just in case.
