For 80% of the season a tex rig plastic worm is my go to bait. If I throw a craw, it's usually behind a jig. I think lizards will catch fish all year, I just don't use them that much. I love plastic worm fishing

The bait choice for me is about the size of the presentation and action.  During spring and winter I use jigs with craws.  Spring is also a good lizard time.  I have never caught a fish on a 8 inch lizard but to be honest I have not put in the time.  Worms are an anytime bait but the size is dependent on mood mostly, and water temp.  I start middle of the road 7 or 9 ribbon tail and adjust depending on fish feedback.  I go smaller always first if o get no action.  4" green pumpkin lizard is any anytime testing bait.  If I cant even get a nibble on that it's time to go home.

I generally start and end with a trickworm.  If fish are hot, I go with something with more action like a U vibe worm or creature.  If I'm catching dinks, I change sizes.  

You fish one when one (or all) of the others isn't working.  Let the bass tell you what they want.

have you guys ever tried using a Lizard T-Rig for top water?  Basically a consistent/steady retrieve kind of popping it to keep it up in the water.  I have had some luck, but need to use it more often to see how effective it really is.

Do yall ever spit on a lizard before using it, for luck?

My late Grandpa recommended us spitting on live worms when I was a kid.  Until this day I spit on all my plastics/lures etc as a way to honor to him.

Side note: I enjoy blast from the past threads. I mean I suppose someone could just start a completely new thread asking the same exact thing, or just bump one. I know bumping this one made for some good insight and some pretty funny responses.

I do that with Texas Rigged lizards, worms, & Speed Craws. Buzz em on top of vegetation like a frog.

 

If ya ain't Texas Rigging Craw Worms ya should be!

Here's a thought.  I found myself  placing plastics into two categories, short/wide ( i.e. beavers ) and long/slender ( i.e. brush hog -worm. )  I will experiment with both and sometimes in variations of actions based on water temperatures.  I try to let the the bass tell me if they have a preference.  I don't pigeon hole myself into any one bait style.  My experience has been the cooler the water the shorter/wider baits seem to be more effective and just the reverse as the water warms.  I still switch up until the fish show a preference.
