What Rod/reel Would You Buy If Money Was Not An Issue?

Featured Replies

So money is not an issue.  What Rod/Reel would be your dream set up?  You can list up to 4 rod/reel.

If money was not an issue, I would speculate that 99% of the anglers on this forum would be eliminated from the discussion, as very few of us could afford things like $500 reels and $1000 rods.  Besides, a dream combo in one man's hands is a piece of trash in another's.  I've said it time and again, regardless of the price, find a rod and reel that feels good in your hands, and go fishing. Remember, all we want to do is catch bass.  A $150 combo, in the right hands, will catch as many bass as the dude with the $1,500 rig.

I agree with Long Mike but I will still like a Nrx 893/Core combo.

I'll stick with my Steez. It'd be nice to have a sweet megabass rod for it though.

You are correct sir, but sometime a Ferrari, etc.. is everyone dream and a Mustang is what we can afford.  Anyway, the subject is about your dream rod/reel is, not what works.

That's a tough one.  If money were no object, I would probably have a couple of Megabass rods and a couple of the new Loomis GLX's.  For reels, it would be a mixture of Daiwa's top end reels.  I would love to have a Ryoga a Steez EX, a Pixy Type R and Zillion J Dream.   It would probably take me a month to decide which 4 combos I wanted. :D

I would get the most expensive four rods I could get my hands on.. then sell them for the stuff I would rather use.. and probably get about 8-10 combos out of it :) is this cheating?

I have pretty much everything I want right now, but I could make a couple tweeks.  Get a Penn torque to replace my conquer, and replace my Avet with a Fin Nor marquesta.  I like all my rods, in fact there people I fish with that have replaced their more expensive rods for what I use.  I am looking to make an addition, not a replacement as I have a reel in perfect shape not being used.  One of my buddies bought a TFO inshore rod, knew he had but I saw it for the first time recently, I've never seen a rod cast further in my life and it's only a 7 footer, I gotta buy it.

Megabass Arms rod- metanium dc

Megabass destroyer x7 - metanium xg

Dobyns zayta - megabass is71

Dobyns zayta spinning - shimano stella

I'd still use my southbend or shakespear fishing rods. I save $$ buying discounted, affordable fishing rods to spend more $$ on new and different lures. I also stock up on

everything I use for the fear of it being discontinued at anytime like BPS did with my hottest topwater lure the topnocker.

Shimano Cumulus blank customized... and a NIB Diawa TD-ito

Anything JDM "pimpafied" from Shimano and Dobyns DX's.

Steez 711 HFBA heavy casting rod.

Steez 103SHA 7:1:1 reel.

20-pound test Big Game line.

Look 'em up and do the math.

Im going with this for rods, would like to try a megabass as well. For reels, id like to try a zonda, conquest dc, metanium, and other jdm shimano reels. For spinners ive had my eye on a stella for a while now, some jdm daiwas, presso/exist/certate.

20 old school morrums 20 new models and 40 avids....then about 30 abu suverens....30 more avids..that would cover me

ergh.. daiwa jdm of odd reel. Id go custom on rod, I believe it was discussed on the forum before, that after a certain price point, a custom would be the best way to go, that was a great thread btw

4 lews team pro reels. no clue on the rods though.

ABU GARCIA mgx extreme on a falcon cara micro guide.

I have a Curado 50E reel that I love. I would like to find the lightest 6' rod that a 32" redfish wouldn't break.
