The technique I use the most is throwing a 1/4oz to a 1/2 oz lipless crankbait under and around docks. If you could have any rod what would it be for this technique?

 

Falcon bucoo micro "trap caster" it's a medium heavy moderate fast I believe, and is just about the only rod I have that I believe is absolutely perfect for what I use it for, which is what you are looking for.

Honestly a 6 or 6' 6" BPS Crankin Stick, I would want it that short for accuracy in and around the docks, probably a MH version for the backbone. Sure u can spend more money, but the Crankin Stick out performs its relatively low cost.

In my opinion if you're used to a specific length of a rod you'll be more accurate with that than a shorter version just from comfort but who knows maybe I'm just weird.

Dobyns Champion 685CB, Kistler KLX 6'9 Med Heavy crank rip twitch, Fenwick Elite Tech Smallmouth 6'10 Med Heavy moderate fast, Shimano Cumara reaction 6'9 Med Heavy. These are all rods I have for throwing lipless cranks and the best I've tried. All would be the ideal length for tight quarters. I throw lipless cranks a lot!

I have use a Avid Med 7' fast rod as my Lipless rod for the past 3 years but I just recently bought a Kistler KLX 7'6" Med Heavy crank rip twitch rod as my new Lipless crankin rod cant wait for April.

Bosn is right on target. I have a G. Loomis cranking rod which is nice but my good, ole BPS crankin stick is still my favorite.

 

When considering your cranking stick please double check the bait parameters to make sure it can handle the lures you will be throwing.

 

A 6'6" to 7' medium heavy rod that can handle your line test and bait weight is right for you. The manufacturer and price is your choice.

I use an STX 6:1, so 26-28

I also keep a 6:4:1 Team Lews ( the dc'd pink one). Since I throw so many treble baits with this, I want something that can be slowed down or sped up. I can burn or slow roll spinnerbaits as well as keep up when ripping traps from grass. It also makes a great squarebill and mid range (to 10ft) crankbait rod....

I only use a low gear on my deep crankbait rod.

I use a 7'1" Medium White Ice Rod with a 6:4.1 Team Lew's, Best Trap Rod I've ever fished. If I start to stay hung up in the grass I'll move to the 7'1" Med-hvy White Ice rod with a Lew's BB1 in 7:1.1 That Med-Hvy White ice rod has an amazing tip on it but turns to backbone half way down, great fishing rod.

I would highly recommend a Dobyns Champion 685cb if you are trying to cast up in tight spaces or a Champion 765cb if you will casting from farther away. Both rods have enough flex and power to keep them hooked and pull them away from the docks quickly. Both of those rods are rated as med/heavy in power which is what I recommend you use for traps regardless of brand.
