Hey Northerners

Definitely guilty of this. I took advantage of TW's 25 days of Christmas sale and after a trip to BPS I've got about $400 worth of new tackle. Yet to be ordered are my 2 new St. Croix's, some more Eco Pro Tungsten, and most likely a new HDS Gen 2 Touch 9.

The weather doesn't mean I can't get new rods lol. Two new DX's on the way baby!

I've bought several Swimbaits, a Daiwa zillion reel, and tungsten weights.

My list of things to buy still includes a Daiwa PX68 Type R, a few duckett rods, and line.

Tungston bullet weights

2 rods

1 reel

and to satisfy my addictions, the obligatory random spinner bait and soft stick bait purchases.

only have bought "in pursuit of giant bass" from amazon new for 15 bucks or so.  Got bored of typical magazines and thought I would give it a read.  I like it.

I have had several big purchases in the "check out now" etc. only to cancel the purchase and realize I really probably do have way too much already.

For some reason I am still convinced I still need another 3-4 rods in the boat when I already don't use half that are in there.

so far I have spent a couple hundred since November including a Daiwa Cielo and a new tackle bag. I have also gotten alot of jigs and more plastics (just what I need haha) I also picked up 10 more crankbaits. I'm saving my BPS gift cards for February when the new BPS open near by in Hooksett NH.

Waiting for the BPS Spring Classic sale to splurge on some other things. I looked at my PayPal account yesterday and almost stabbed my eyes out when I reviewed my "cabin fever' purchases. Next winter I'm canceling internet.

I'm impressed,.......no..wait..... depressed.

If anything, I've set aside some gear to sell.  I'll need to restock on some plastics, and I'll need some spinnerbaits too, but really, unless the pike have gone on the rampage, I have more than enough hard baits. Let's hope for Lucky Craft's sake, pike-pocalypse never happens, lol.

IDK how you do it????.............that is, have the stones to toss $15+ baits around here. I know what I lose a year in sub $10 baits and I can hardly afford to replace those as fast as I lose them some times.

I don't use braid. :P

You really need to come down here when the jerkbait bite is on, you'll catch plenty of bass, and you'll also go home $300 poorer.

New Grub mold is coming today so that will be the next project for a few months so I got plenty when its time to roll lol

I got...

*** 7'1 MH

Ducket Micro Magic 7' MH

Revo STX

Lews tournament Speed Spool

Tons of pline and seaguar FC ranging from 12-20lb

Hooks and Weights

Squarebills

Some Siebert Outdoor Jigs

Small Swimbaits such as Decoy Hydra tail, G2 Shellcracker etc

$250 in Plastics

I have a Phenix M1 7'2 H on my wish list as well

I'm doing a lot better this year than last. Restocked plastics, jig making materials, and a bunch of swimbaits. Only thing left is fishing line and maybe another swimbait if I feel the need to splurge.

Holy batman Mark you got a good list going my friend. Will the bolded lure be fished with a leader or you risking it with those toothy critters? Hope you smack a giant with that thing.

yes it will. I have the LE Freestyle Green Gizzard shad too. Looks amazing in the water. I only got to fish it twice before winter.

Honestly, I lose more tungsten to pike than hard baits.  That's not to say I haven't been bitten off, though - maybe twice in the past few years.  Pike LOVE Ragetail baits, and I keep a spool of Cortland Toothy Critter around for when the pike are prowling.  Most often though, if I'm catching big pike, I'll move.  I feel like the bigger pike drive bass out of the area.

Just curious how many other Northerners on here have already started making large tackle purchases even though we probably

still have a couple more months of frozen water?

I have ordered tons of crankbaits, soft plastics, monofilament, hooks and even sunglasses (in addition to the ice fishing gear I am stocking up on now).

I think, if every week or so I get to mess with fishing gear it makes me forget for a little bit that I cannot go Bass fishing for a while.

Today I also went out to the barn and visited my Triton for a little bit.

More snow right now and -5 degrees tonight means I better order something. Siebert Outdoors jigs anyone?  lol

So far since hunting and paintball season ended:

7' 11" Daiwa Cielo HF

7' Gander mtn GSX MF

6'6" Gander mtn Vortex MLF

Revo STX

Tatula R

daiwa laguna 2500 x2

daiwa regal 2500

orra s20

Symetre 2000

8#, 12# invisx

12# YZH ultra soft

numerous jigs, a few spinnerbaits and buzz baits, with extra skirts.

weights, jigheads, hooks, and assorted misc.

Plastics, plastics, plastics...and some more plastics....

So...now im in need of a new tackle box :)

Why you ask... Because i have a problem and the only way to make it better is to buy more stuff!

I'm even further up north, MN. I did load up during TW's sale and got two reels and more lures. Funny as it may seem, I have been keeping busy learning basics. This past month I've been learning and perfecting tying knots. I mean I know how to tie a few different knots, but I want to remember a few more and even the ones I know I want to be able to do it quick and efficient.

Thats a good idea.

So do I , but some of my biggest fish every year.....5 and 6lbers, come smack dab in the middle of a pike fest, so I put up with it.

  • Super User

Cayuga comes to mind, where you have to "fish through the pike" to get to the big girls.

I'm not adding it up, I'm just too scared.

Looking at this thread makes me realize how bad cabin fever hits our wallets, so to avoid getting hit by SHE WHO MUST BE OBEYED, I quickly hide/destroy receipts.

I just purchased two pairs of Sealskinz gloves, some OWNER Mambo heads, weedgaurds, green pumpkin power paint, and a toaster oven...... Its time for some jig tying!

This off season I have picked up a few things, but not as much as last year.

- Daiwa T3-B

- Quantum Kinetic X2

- Lews tournament MG

- quantum centex

- skeet victory casting reel

- shimano compre

- shimano clarus X2

- st croix mojo spinning

- 125 jig heads and skirts for custom jigs

- waterproof plano boxes X10

- about 250 in jig trailers and craw baits

some other stuff too, but this is the main catch this year... its time for spring...

Amen to that. Spring can't come fast enough.

Can't beat smacking those big Largies on jigs. Good luck this season bud.
