hi im looking for a good reel in the $150 to $180 dollar range i need a reel i can throw every thing with. I had the new curado i in mind any other suggestions? 

Curado G is being discounted at $90-$100.

 I don't own any shimano reels, but I'd love to get my hands on a curado i.  Higher priced lews reels are also a sure bet.

What sort of rod is this reel going to sit on? A MH general purpose type set-up?

At around 100 bucks the Curado G, despite the many critics , is a no - brainer.

For the best bang for your buck would be the G Series at 99 .  Other than that, why not just go for another I?  If you want to try another brand...the Tatula is getting very good feedback.  DOn't own yet, but plan on one someday, but probably after I get my first Curado I.

The Lews Tourney Pro is being discounted a few places for about 160.  For that money I think it is a steal.

In this price range you have so many options to choose from. It's probably the most competitive range for casting reels. They'll all be solid performers. You just have to find what feels the best to you. If you aren't against buying used you open up a whole lot more choices also.

the T3 is being sold for around 200 at TW, that is a pretty darn good price on that reel. The tatula can be had for around 100, and the type r can be found for around 140.00. the curado I looks like a great reel with a lot of good innovations and features especially in this price range. The quantum smoke is also a good option, as well as some of the lews in this range... At 110 I think the T3-B is the best value out there right now...

Where are they on sale for that price? I know you can get them on the auction site for around $130-150 but I haven't seen a retailer with that price of late.

At the price point your shopping you'd almost have to try to go wrong among the major brands. It will come down to features, deals and personal preferences. There really is no one standout or lemon that comes to mind.

Anytime you see these threads, people just throw out whatever they're using because everyone's favorite thing is "the best." That said, having used the Quantum Smoke, Revo Stx, Lews Tourney Pro, Tatula Type R, and Curado I, all of which can be found in your range; I still think the Tatula is my favorite of the bunch overall. A close second would be the new Curado. I ended up only keeping my Shimano and Daiwa reels after trying just about everything. The other companies just felt less refined to me.

Sportsmansoutfitters.com  had a great deal going on a lot of great reels.  

I dont think you can really go wrong with an reel  in that price range. You just have to try them out and see what you like. I love the way the Tatula looks and feels to reel, but the way it sits on my hand, it would give me a blister if I did a lot of long casts.  So I think its really whatever you are most comfortable with.

I just received the Daiwa T3 Ballistic and it is hands down the best of the 4 reels that I own (lews speed spool, Pfluegar President, BPS Pro Qualifier).  I couldn't believe how far and smooth this thing casts!  The T wing system really does what it says it does.  Not the prettiest reel but boy does it perform! Can't go wrong at 109.00 at Tackle Warehouse.  The T3 is around $200 I believe which is a higher end version.

Tha Pro Qualifier is $70 at BPS right now. Get two of them in different ratios and double your fun.
