I still have not forced myself into using the tungsten bullet weights yets.  I know of the advantages blah blah blah, but yes it's the cost that continues to steer me clear.  I get on pretty darn well using brass (and have for many years) but still use good old lead most of the time.  When I do want/need to telegraph bottom composition up my line, that's when I reach for the brass and for those not familiar the difference is very noticeable.  Am a huge fan of Thunder Bullets, best brass I've ever used.   If you would like some more "feel" vs lead, brass is a cheaper alternative to tungsten and still environmentally friendly.

 

So, anyone else here still clinging to brass or have ya'll moved on to tungsten? I know it's time for me to try some tungsten and I will soon, just wondering if anyone else uses brass at all.

I use painted brass bullet weights from Top Brass and glass faceted beads,rarely use lead weights.

The reason is lead is soft and the hole in the nose gets damaged creating line drag on a sliding weight.

Tungsten weights are smaller, heavier and harder, the problem is sharp edges that cut the line. The nylon tubes inserted into tungsten don't stay in the weight. Adding a shrink sleeve liner helps, but takes a lot of time and the tungsten is expensive for everyday use.

Brass N Glass is my go to Texas rig.

I ultimately conceded to using tungsten sinkers, but cannot justify the cost.

Tungsten carbide is a commercial metal that I used daily in my trade (tool & die).

Used as a recreational metal though, it's a ridiculous price to pay just to reduce sinker diameter by 1/8".

Anglers are a desperate lot

I only get tungsten when I find it on ridiculous sales, like strike king tournament grade in 1/4 oz for a buck per 3 pack that is a steal and the local walmart has no more on clearance lol. I used to use brass for carolina rigging but now use tungsten

It's not because it's smaller.. It's cause it is so

Capable of greatly enhanced feel... At least to

me... I like ultra steel for some drop shot rigs and

tube rigs.... It offers a enhanced feel too!

But, it's way big in size... If it works well enuff,

Use lead, brass, ultra steel... Tungston has become crazy high in price... Glad I got a lot of it!

This is usually what I do. I only buy them 3/16 - 1/4 and up.

I bought all the tungsten I could get my hands on when Tru Tungsten went out of business.  I haven't had to buy weights in years.  It would be hard to go back to lead now.

I switched over to all tungsten weights a few years ago and have not looked back.  I do have some brass left but I dont really use it anymore.
