Just saw this on my FB page. The avid apparently is getting a face lift. Looks to be a split grip design. I guess we find out on Thursday.

Well dang.  I am a big St Croix fan, especially the avid series, but a split grip..........  I hope they kept the fore grip at least!

Looks like St Croix is trying to add a little more to there lineup so everyone has a a choice for there favorite design. Hopefully the Original  Avid stays the same,,,,,, if not thank God they sell blanks! They have made the Ladies version with split grip and different guides for some time. But I agree, I would hate to see them offer only only an unfinished handle on such a fine rod!

I don't mind split grips but hate fore grips with a passion. May have to check one of these out when released! If they do a inshore model, consider sold! All my salt rods are St Croix

They use K-series micros on the Legend Elite, Extreme, and Tournament; though they're not as small as some other companies micro guides. They also use junky minima micro guides on the Rage. Not exactly something new....

Which is why a lot of old timers use the avid. because its is the basic rod with full cork and "normal" guides. 

The Minnima4 guides are actually not bad at all. Don't let the lack of a ceramic ring throw you for a loop. They are a good choice for keeping both expense and weight at a minimum. A number of reputable custom builders are using the Minnima4's with very good results.

A lot of old timers use the Avid because of the fact that it's performance is proven! Maybe not the Very Best in the St. Croix line, but many think it's the best Rod for the money from anyone, as it performs much better than it's price suggests!

As an Avid user, I'm hoping these 'AvidX' rods are an addition to the lineup, and the people at St. Croix are not overthinking the current Avid series of rods. Of course, I don't know how well the Avid series sells these days. Those of us who prefer a more traditional rod are likely not driving the market. And a lot of guys are like me. I already own my Avids. Unless they come out with a 7' 3" version of their M and MH rods (Please St. Croix!) I don't have much reason to buy any rods in the near future. But when I do want to buy a new Avid, or need to replace one of my current ones, I hope they still exist for years to come.

A rod builder can give you what you're looking for with a custom! Its not that hard to extend one.

I love the avids as they are. Ain't broke so dont fix. Replacing the classic look of the avid with some new style with micro guides and a split grip would be a crime.

I've used them on a handful of rods and was underwhelmed. They're not necessarily a "bad" guide, but I don't think they belong on a $150+ rod, when they're common on rods costing 1/3 of that.

Geez, the split grip on these rods are really getting old, croix needs to think diffrent on their cork grips, they suck those split grips!
