Got out the other night and stuck another musky on the big bait. Rolled a few other fish and got bit off by a BIG one on the Huddleston.

Good times!

Nice Musky Speed ~

Bummer about the bite off - might want to do with steel leader.

I'm researching making my own 100lb fluoro leaders and affixing them directly to some soft baits. I'm not a fan of all the heavy hardware on pre-tied leaders.

Wayne check these out. The snap ends allow you change the snap to whatever you want to use. The fluoro leaders are nail knots plus a crimp with rubber heat shrink material thats keeps the ends from picking up weeds. I used to make up my own leaders but these are so durable I just buy them & change up the snaps as needed. The titanium leaders in single stand 30lb test are very thin.

A 40" toothy critter is about the average size around here, caught 3 yesterday.  If I were using an expensive lure I certainly would want to protect against cutoffs.  I'm using 20# surflon with a duolock, those are crimped, my tubes are made with 30# surflon, effective and inexpensive.  If I'm using spoons I'll use a 20 or 30# mono leader, take my chances on a cut off which does happen.  I do wait until I see Krocodiles on sale for $1.99 and stock up, I don't take getting cut off too serious then.

There's a couple different lakes within an easy days drive you can catch them from. Every muskie I've ever caught was from Missouri :)

Never been lucky enough to get one to eat a swimmer though and they don't get nearly as big as they do where SB is at. I'm sure that's a hoot getting them on the big baits like that  :respect-059:

I tie up all my own leaders out of 80 and 100lb. Fluorocarbon.  I both tie and crimp them (I like the double redundancy) and then shink tube the end over the crimp sleeve and knot (helps cut on weed pick up as Dwight mentioned.  Not a hard process.  Finding a knot that is managible with that thick Fluoro is the trickest part.  I use the Lee Tauchen knot, which works well for me.

If I want to use a heavier leader (say 200# Fluoro), then I just purchase a few Stealth Leaders.  Best premade Fluoro leader around.
