Hello Jucas and Welcome to BR ~

Since you're new here, I'm going to help you out.

These threads NEVER go according to plan.

I owned a quantum once....once.

Honestly there is nothin wrong with quantum, i just had a bad bad experience with a PTXM baitcaster that went back to them four times and it still was messed up. They would not just send me a new one. That reel lives in the bottom of lake wallenpaupak now

The name "Abu" is quite odd and funny to say to an outsider.  "Quantum" sounds erudite and space age.

Pros: Don't have either of them

Cons: They aren't Lew's or Shimano's

Had a quantum on an Abu veritas rod, had to return the rod twice for a break now the quantum's on a st.Croix. Have never had a problem with my quantum reel.

I own both brands, spinning, I don't use a b/c.  Never owned reels I liked better than my Quantum cabos.  My 4 Abu sorons have been very good performers too, but I would preference them 1 notch down from  my cabos.  If and when I buy a new reel it will be a smoke pts.  Both companies have excellent customer service.  I use Pflueger supremes for  my light fishing, no complaints there.

What you will hear is a lot of  is this reel is better than that reel, what you won't hear much of is why.  IMO that is because a large number of people that respond to these posts have never had a reel far enough apart to understand the differences between one reel and another and what potentially makes one better than the other.

If you truly want to know what may make one better suited to your needs over the other, then ask a trusted reel tech, someone who has had the opportunity to study them in depth.

S E A R C H !

Quantums are nice enough.  I have a couple.

Nothing will ever replace my round Abu Garcia reels though, 1960s vintage to present.  They just feel right.

I don't like the new low-profile anything.  The IPT just reduce way too much with long casts.

I own an abu silver max and a black max Aswell as a quantum entry level bait caster. I prefer the abu silver.

This thread does not make sense, nor does it do anything to help out anyone.  No question was asked, or anything like "Hey, I am looking at either this, or that reel."

I have an Abu Garcia Revo that I like a lot.

I would like to try out the Quantum Tour MG reel. The braking system I think like that of the Helios is not my fav though.

I like both brands quite a bit. ABU has good quality reels the Revo S and SX are good both cast great and handle pretty well. Of the two though I prefer quantum over abu. Quantum has some really nice reels in the 100-200 dollar range. personally I like the energy pt a lot, and the Kinetic PT. the kinetic pt is probabily my best casting reel for distance, I have one of them on a frogging rod and one on a deep crankbait rod. both have abec 7 ceramic bearings and just flat out perform beautiful well above their price point. I used a smoke for a while, but for the added cost over the energy it was not a great value for me. I am looking to pick up one of the Tour MG's in the off season to put on a bucoo micro fliping stick to help avoid the claw while fishing bottom contact. quantum and abu do not get a ton of love and or respect on this forum, but in my opinion they are more innovative than shimano, and more affordable than daiwa, which puts them in a nice middle ground as far as features and price. ( I have a lot of daiwa reels and love them, and I also use shimano rods and enjoy them as well )

Well he did say "Lets Stir some stuff up on here everyone!"  I don't get the feeling he is trolling despite that last statement.  OP didn't ask for anything other than opinions.  Those are like armpits....everyone has them and some have a distinct odor.  :teeth3:     Now if he wants opinions on Shimanos all he has to do is open any thread with the word "reel" in the title.  :eyebrows:

OP:  Welcome to the forum.  Sorry, but I can't stir up much mud in this debate.  Absolutely no experience with Quantum reels.  I do have a couple Quantum rods.  Does that count?  :teeth:

Ready for a shocker OP?  Abu reels aren't actually Abu reels and neither are the Quantums.  Abu vs quantum is really a which badge engineered Koren OEM reels is best argument.  Abus are Doyos and Doyo makes some good stuff (lews, BPS, PureFishing ect).

so, "Abu" gets my vote.

Daiwas! Every other reel is total junk and should be thrown away.

Did that stir it up?

The reality is I've never owned a Quantum so I can't say. I have a 3 year old Abu Premier that seems to backlash too often (I'm guessing it's the outdated breaking system)  and a BPS Pro Qualifier that's rock solid. Two Daiwa Lexas that just feel right and work well and a Pinnacle (not sure of the model) that seems to work just fine as well. I think they all work well in the right application.

Lets Stir some stuff up on here everyone!

Why? Nothing better to do with your time than starting internet bashing threads?

Neither. Did that start the stirring enough?

Winner !!

Lets see, owned 4 different quantums once... Needless to say, they have all been sold and only own Shimano's now.... My advice, start with Shimano and you will never have to debate on anything else.
