What Is The Least Depth Water You Will Fish Dropshot

Featured Replies

The title says it all.I always thought drop shotting was for depths 10' or more . A friend says no, it can be effective down to 3' also, but  with a cast.

Also how many of you cast d s rigs even in deep water.

Thanks

I don't drop shot alot but I know they will work in water that is shallow, and lots of people cast dropshots very effectively.

I've caught dropshot fish in 2' of water next to shallow docks a few times.

I have cast it like a texas rig for years...but love dropping it on smallies in deeper water.

I drop shot in all depths, from the bank out to the abyss. It is the most effective way to catch bedding smallmouth I have found yet, but you didn't hear it from me.

Bank to abyss here too...and I agree you can definitely use it to annoy bedding fish - although I rarely fish beds anymore.

Ive done in less than 3ft with success...ive also gone as deep as 60ft and was getting hit before the bait was down 10 lol

As long as there's water between the surface and the bottom.

I pretty much only cast a drop shot and as long as there's water there it'll work.

Drop shot is a presentation to present a soft plastic at a controlled depth.

It doesn't matter if the rig is dropped straight down or at a angle.

3-30 foot ;)

35' - 40' is about the max for me. I'm sure it would be effective much deeper, but I do not like to kill fish and pulling them up from depths deeper could hurt their swim bladder. So I keep it shallower for that reason. I know, you can "fizz" them. Not my cup of tea. Even at 35' I try to get them up and released as soon as possible.

Thanks  for all the replies. I haven`t used the method much because most of my fishing is in shallow  water , that being 8' or less. Also I have been heavily involved in salt water fishing  for a long time now.

I have a rekindled interest in bass fishing because that is where my true roots are.

Again thanks for the help.
