What Kind Of Line You Have On Your Baitcasting Reel

Featured Replies

I just bought a shimano curado and I'm getting a abu garcia stx and was wondering what kind of line you guys use?

My STX has 40# braid because I use it mainly to throw unweighted worms into lily pads and weeds.  My 50 size Curados have 8# mono, my 201E has 12# mono.

Mainly you need to consider type of cover and rod ratings to determine which weight and type of line is best for you.

Anywhere from 12lb flouro to 65lb braid. Need specifics on what you plan to use them for before suggesting line.

I have 3 different types of line in about 8-10 different lb tests.  If you're looking for 1 line to be versatile on one or 2 casting rods, I would go with 12 or 14 lb mono.

14lb. fluro at least on all my casting reels, except my cranking reel, 14lb. mono.  I am not going to get hung up, or broken off

I have Mono in  10lb,12lb, and 15lb and Flouro in 12lb and 17lb. Different baits= Different line size

I use Trilene Sensation 14 pound test or Trilene XT 14 and 17 pound test, I fish from a kayak so I just carry 2 or 3 rods. I'm looking for my baitcasting setups to be able handle everything from spinnerbaits to football jigs rather than to be technique specific.

For what work? Answer that question and get a more defined answer...

anything seaguar...

I have used braid up to this point on every reel:  power pro 10lb, 15lb, 20lb, 30lb and 40lb, suffix 832 30lb.  This year I'm going to try sunline sniper 7lb and 10lb and some copoly 8lb.

Every reel I have is spooled with braid...either 20, or 30lb.  Swimbaits 40 and 65.  Spinning 10lb.  Topshots added as needed either FC or mono depending on what I'm fishing.

Got 30 lb suffix and 50 lb power pro

15# PLine Voltage (testing)

12# PLine Floroclear

14# PLine Floroclear

65# PowerPro braid

10# PLine Floroclear

Braid for heavy cover presentation's

Floro for bottom contact presentation's

Co Poly for moving bait presentation's

Dont use mono at all anymore, see no reason too.

Pretty much every baitcaster I have is spooled with 12 lb flouro. I have 3 exceptions and that's my flippin stick - 50lb braid. Frog rod - 50 lb braid. Topwater rod - 12lb mono.

I've got a little bit of everything. Most braids get tipped with a FC leader when needed.

40 pound Seaguar Smackdown (all around)

40 pound Suffix 832 (all around)

50 pound Suffix 832 (frogging/heavier applications)

14 pound Sunline Sniper FC (plastics and flipping)

20 pound Suffix 832 (finesse spinning)

30 pound Suffix 832 (spinning)

30 pound Power Pro Slick 8 (salmon spinning)

65 pound Power Pro (musky)

I also have the following that I have bought so far this off season that will make it's way into the arsenal. I've bought two new reels this offseason, so those will need something, right?

12 pound Sunline Reaction FC

12 pound Yo Zuri Hybrid

10 pound Pline Floroclear

14 pound Pline Floroclear

15 pound Seaguar Senshi mono

8 pound Seaguar AbrasX FC
