Scam Alert

The most interesting calls are those that show your number on the caller ID display.  We never answer a call that has our number as the caller.

Actually we do not answer any calls where we do not recognize the number.  If the caller wants to speak with us, they can leave a message, identifying themselves.

That's the only answer!

actually you wasted 15 minutes of your own time.

Exactly.

After 15 seconds have elapsed, they figure they've got a fish on the line.

In the same vein, we never answer calls labeled "Caller-ID Locked".

We take it a step further - ALL calls are answered by our answering machine.  If it's somebody we know, they'll start to leave a message, and we'll pick up.  Telemarketers and scammers hang up before the beep.  :)

Our line got so bad I just dumped the land line.  We were even on the do not call list.    Cell only now, I haven't had issues in a long time with scams.

We dumped our landlines as well, and switched to VoIP (Ooma).

In addition to its amenities, our monthly cost went from $88 to $4

It was one of the best things I ever did was to dump my land line.  Like you said also the cost saving.  It was about 35.00 a month for my land line.
