Bank Fishing Stand Or Take A Chair

Ok my turn to make every thing clear ;)

Every place I bank fish I can drive my truck right up to the water's edge.

After 10 years I know how far I can walk/stand so I start at the truck, walk an area, & drive to the next.

Even in a boat I'll still sit & fish resting my back, and yes I can flip/pitch while sitting.

If you need a chair, take the lightest, most convenient chair that will actually function well enough to be worth while. Why not? My other bit of advice, as someone who bank fishes quite a bit; keep it simple. Have a game-plan, and take only what you will need for that trip. Most of the time, I can fit all of the tackle I am going to use into a fanny-pack style bag, and I carry one rod (usually either a M/F or MH/F St. Croix Avid, or a spinning rod, depending on what I'm doing). I can move faster, make more casts, and it's easier on me physically. I know a lot of people can't stand to use a "less-than-ideal" rod or line for every presentation, but to me the benefits outweigh the detriments when it comes to working the banks.

Catfishing - Chair

Bass - Stand

Carp: chair

Bass: stand and walk, like a river rat.

A seat is just one more thing to carry.  If I sit down it is to change a bait, or find something in the tackle box.  Usually a stump or a rock around somewhere that I use.

I know this thread is old, but I found it Googling “chairs for bank fishing”. The comments are interesting, and I wonder what my response would have been in say, 2001 when I was about to turn 41 vs 2021 (do the math). I fractured two transverse processes in my lower back and my coccyx years ago, and I cannot stand for long periods. Walking is not an issue, but standing still is. So if I’m fishing off the bank vs my boat I do bring a camp chair and sit periodically. It helps reduce the ache and keeps me out fishing longer. But a better chair for fishing vs a simple camp chair would be nice.

When seated, I tend to work soft plastics slowly. Does it produce? You tell me.

Always stand. I like to be mobile and move when I need to. A chair is just one more thing to haul around.

I've never used it for fishing but I have a folding tripod stool with a shoulder strap that I've used for deer hunting. I doubt that it weighs more than a pound.

Sitting down gives the zombies a chance to catch you...

I stand while bank fishing ponds and stay on the move for a few hours. In the boat I use a lean 2/standing/Pro seat whatever you call them for 6 - 8 hours. A duck hunters swamp seat is adjustable and portable.

I sit when I fish because my balance is garbage from nerve damage.

I don't take a chair or anything, though. I just sit on the ground.
