Too Much Tackle?

Featured Replies

Okay, my wife says I need help and don't disagree completely, but than she said those heinous words. "You have too much tackle" Ohhhh..

Like any addict I denied it. I made reason, but than I got defensive. "There is no such thing as "too much tackle"

So ladies and gents, am I wrong? Is there such a thing, where do you draw the line? What is too much?

Oh no... I will not admit defeat.

My parents tell me I have to many rods, reels and lures etc....... But I told them you can't ever have enough it's like only having one pair of shoes I mean one pair would work but it wouldn't be great for everything so tell your wife she has to many shoes or something of that sort

You will not win or lose with "A Wife" on anything.. You can only survive the day... Survive the day my man, then you can fight the baitmonkey.. Another hopeless battle that ultimately leads to a unconditional surrender.

There is the point where you achieve possession of each variant of your chosen styles and presentations like previously stated

You can honestly say you have to much when you pick a certain style and you go to grab that set of tackle and you can't take it all

Say you want to fish a jig in the creek

A brown one

Say 3/8

And you have brown jigs from 12 different makes in 10 different weights

That's a problem

You have too much tackle when your wife has too many pairs of shoes/purses/ear rings, etc.

Seriously, you have too much when the money you intend to spend on it is money that needs to go toward necessities. Any money left over after the bills are paid should be used for your enjoyment, whatever that may be. I get a LOT of enjoyment buying fishing gear (most of which I will likely never use), my kid spends it on shooting gear and both our wives complain we have too much until I mention what our son-in-law spends on his golfing habit.........end of discussion.

I wouldn't sat that I am at that point. Yeah I have a big selection of Jigs.. I would say 20 is, but some are swimmers, some are footballs, and all different weights and colors.

I recently went crazy over the 20% off sales. I bought some wake baits, and went to town on getting come divers. This order it isn't that big. $250 in tackle, but some I have a rod and a $30 musky bait. 1/2 is baits amd other is soft plastics.

A little blury, but this is my hard bait selection.. 6 3700's

My girlfriend told me the same thing. That I had too much gear and she pointed out that a lot were probably still new and never been used. She was right, which I did not acknowledge at the time until one random day, I decided to reorganize my stuff and felt overwhelmed. That's when it hit me. Over the last few years, I've sold off a ton of stuff that I wasn't going to use and only buy new lures to try out if it catches my attention. Most of the time I visit the tackle shop is to only restock what I need.

How many outfits/purses/shoes does she have? She can only wear them one at a time so why does she need so many?  :eyebrows:   And that's when the fight starts.

Everybody has their thing that they spend money on that they really don't really need to.

As long as my wife is happy she can have all the shoes and purses she wants, she won't ever tell me I have too much stuff.

I buy want I need to catch fish, in saltwater it's a spoon, bucktail, fluke on jig head and a top water lure make my own cuda tubes, not much else is needed.  In freshwater I tie my own jigs,  primarily use topwater, jerkbaits and flukes, my arsenal is kept to a minimum.  I lose a lure I just replace the one I lost.

I complained to this to the guys at TW as well. After much time and consideration they will be offering a new wife option for their 2015 website.

Too much tackle is when you have to rent a garage to store the excess.

Otherwise you need more to keep up with the newest and best out there.

Tell your wife that if she continues to hassle you about your tackle the Bait Monkey will visit her.

And you don't want the Bait Monkey to visit you.

My wife has all the purses, jewelry, clothes, etc. she wants and more.  I know because I buy it for her and that gives me pleasure.  She always wants me to buy tackle for myself.  I do and I let her know what I want for birthday/Christmas or whatever and she buys it.  She knows I have more tackle than I need but never too much.

It is not unusual for us to go to Academy and I spent $10-$20 on tackle and she spends $130 on shoes.  We just laugh about it and go to lunch.

One of the things we have realized, since we are retired and living on a retirement, it is very easy to have everything we want.  We just adjust our wants to match our life.  Life is a lot easier, and more fun, that way.

Happy New Year!

My Dad always told me "Use the right tool for the job".  So, no there's never too much tackle.  Be prepared & cover all the bases.

Yes there is a such thing but who really cares?

It only becomes to much when its hard for you to organize or find what you want. When you get to that point you need to organize your stuff or purge some of your lure selection. Otherwise no :eyebrows:

I do hand off a lot of my tackle to my son. So when a section gets too bad I clean it up.

But I do have to say. I don't have it that bad with my wife as some may. My wife doesn't but shows all the time, and yeah she buys a purse here or there, but I hardly think 2 coach purses are over kill...

Next time you wave back, women's closet is full with junk like shoes, purses, blouses and all sorts of rags.

Rags?

Organization is key. I am one of the guys who believes I need as much lure selections as the guys fishing the Elites. However, I have everything organized and know exactly what I have, in what size, and what colors- so If I want something I know what I have to fit the bill, and where to get it. If you can't find it/forget it you have too much. However, I would never admit this to the female population.
