Diy Rod Repair

Featured Replies

This past year, my panfish rod has deveolped a few issues. I want to keep it as its a good rod and have used it for years,1224630E-4299-4FC8-B4DB-FF061B5E06D0.jpg the rod tip has come out, thought I could maybe use some 5 min epoxy on it?  76370648-3FFD-4F36-AAC8-50F2EEBC28C9.jpg second, one of the guides' finish is yellowing... Is this an issue

You mutilated that tip.yellow is old glue all i ever did was pick it off gently and put small coats of gorilla clue on mine.

You can get a Fuji tip repair kit with assorted tops and adhesive for a few bucks. All epoxy will yellow eventually. It's not a problem unless it cracks and moisture gets in and loosens the guide at which point a rewrapping is in order.

I would probably get a fuji rod tip repair kit.  It comes with the glue you need and a few guides. I wouldnt worry too much abut the yellowing finish.

All finish will yellow. Some even does it in the bottle! The finish on that guide does appear to be cracked though. It will eventually do what DVT said and get loose.

If your intrested in making it good as new i would measure the tip with a caliper or micrometer and order a fugi guide and some tiptop glue from mudhole.  The guide in the second picture has broken threw the epoxy and should be re-wraped.  I am building my first rod, so i will not say its easy but its not the most difficult thing in the world to do.  Check out the video's on mudhole for repair tips and how to's.

Get yourself some epoxy and use that in place of the hot glue stick that comes with the kit.  That d**n hot glue glue never holds.

If you are uncomfortable doing it yourself, take it to Palo Outdoors. I'm pretty sure they do it for under 10$.
