Daiwa Px Type-R Clicking Drag?

Looks like everything is as it should be minus the two small parts that were previously mentioned.  Order those parts, or borrow them from another reel to test.  But from what I can see in the pictures, if you add those parts your good to go.

  • I received the reel earlier today and have not taken it apart. I don't know if I should open it up to try and figure it out or send it back, I don't feel a $500 reel should need fixing out of the box!

  • Thanks!

  • Dude.. Contact Daiwa..

Yup, order the parts. It's easy work to install...

So parts 90 and 91 are all I need?

Yes,that should do the trick. I know to do the conversion on other reels. You have to use the driveshaft from a pxr. Try adding the spring and the holder first. You should be good with just those.

Is this because the drive shaft is not long enough to add these additional parts?

That part shouldn't add very much at all it's no thicker than the thrust washer.

from Tackle warehouse?

I know they were selling 1 that had a star issue but was like 279$ or something.

I saw that reel the other day on tw, i really wouldnt be surprised if he somehow ended up with it...

Correct but I'm pretty sure you're just missing the 2 small parts. There's no reason you should have the shorter driveshaft in yours. Seems like a slip up during assembly or something like that. I bet if you call Daiwa and tell them what happened and maybe forward them the email. They'll send you the parts at no charge.

Defiantly going to contact Daiwa as Tackle Warehouse is not proving to be of any help. After calling TW they told me there is nothing they can do and I will have to contact Daiwa to figure things out on my own or pay to return the reel as I am a Canadian customer. I also asked if they may have sent me the reel that had the drag issue ($279.99) and they told me there is no way they could know this. Surprising as I thought TW would want to try and make things right.

I'm not surprised at all, which is why I suggested contacting Daiwa to begin with... Now that you have the info from the guys you should have zero issues with parts acquisition from Daiwa.. That's a fine reel and I'm pretty sure when you get it right, you will love it... Best Wishes...

Part #'s

F02-8201 leaf spring holder $1.80

F03-2401 leaf spring $0.50

I did the same deal from there. My drag star clicks, but my spool tension does not. I really don't care but I have been wondering why this would be?

  • Super User

That reel does not have that feature.

The description on there says it does lol.

Doesn't say it on the Daiwa site. I'm guessing the TW description is for the mag dial, not the tension knob. Either way, it's not supposed to click.

Yeah i dont know. I just stopped worrying about it because it makes 0 difference to me.

I bought several PXL-R's from TW, all have clicking drag stars, which is expected based on the specs.  Now, if you do a search on PXR's on the various boards you will find some older threads about how to add a clicking drag star to a PXR, so maybe the older models did not have the clicking feature, and you got an older model?  Just a guess...  Tackletrap even sells a kit... http://tackletrap.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=898_660_816

Now, I would like to have a clicking tension knob - I knew it didn't have one, but it would be nice if it could be added with minimal fuss - anyone know?

I can't stand a clicking spool tension knob. One thing I dislike about many high end reels. Some do not allow the fine tuning necessary. Though they do stay put once set.

I also dont like clicking spool tension knobs. I can dial my core in perfectly, my conquest on the other hand i always seem to be fiddling with it, lol.

I've been told I'm crazy. Lol.

Did you ever get this resolved? I just got a PXR with the same issue..

I ended up calling Daiwa and telling them my issue. I told them the parts I was missing and they sent them free of charge. Problems fixed now. Did you get the reel from TW also?

I had to call Daiwa last week about my Tatula. First time for me, and they sent the part for free, which I heard they do. That's cool of them to do that.

Unfortunately I bought mine from another board member but it was brand new in the box. Which parts did you end up needing?
