Suggested Buy For A Cheap Baitcasting Reel?

Featured Replies

I just recently sold my lews laser mg speed spool due to money constraints. Now, before spring comes, I will definetly need a new baitcaster. I have around 50-60$ and am looking for new or used baitcaster that has centrifugal or DBS braking systems. Can anybody make me some suggestions?

BassPro has the Pro Qualifier on sale for $80 online right now. I'd go that route.

Another vote for citica or a PQ.  I own both and they are good reels for he money.

Based on your 50-60 range I would go with the H2O Xpress Mettle at Academy.  There is a no questions asked return policy and if anything happens they'll give you a new one.

The Pinnacle Matrix 7.0:1 is a pretty good deal.  It's $50 at Dick's Sporting Goods.  I used it all last year.  It's O.K. but if I could redo it I would have just spent the extra to get a Lew's.  With reels you really get what you pay for.

I like to buy my bait casters from Walmart. Walmart is local, got lots of price ranges, you can spin them before purchasing, and no question refunds. Why order from a photo and have the hassle of returning if you don't like.  Today I'm using three Abu Garcia ProMax, 8 bearing, 7.1:1, which cost me between $60 and $80, depending on the sale when purchased. Being relatively cheap, if one gives me a problem I'll just buy a new one, but that hasn't happened yet. I did purchase a Shakespeare bait caster for $25 at a flea market and it lasted about two years. Like you I like the DBS with one being the "dial" magnetic brake.

Another vote for the H2O Mettle.  It is a solid reel and Academy's return policy is no questions asked the BEST!!!  No questions asked, if something is wrong with the reel, or rod, take it in and exchange it.

Used PQ, and if you can go $80, grab a new one.

For $60 which is what you're asking, I would put you on a abu garcia silver max. You won't find a better reel than this for less than $60.

I'd go bass pro brand route or take a chance because I've never held or used one before. Look up eposeidon baitcasters , see the reviews and judge yourself. I've heard there bx1000?? is a great reel for the money which is around 40 bucks I think. Hey its a cheap reel for ya

H2O Mettle if you want brand new in that price range. Or find a used reel in the flea market.

I agree with getting a mettle I have 4 of them and academy stands behind them 100%
