hey bass resource.sometime this spring i will be getting a deep diving/lipless crankbait setup. I'm willing to pay up to 250$ for the rod. does anyone have any suggestions on which rod i can get? im getting the new Daiwa Zillion TWS 5.5:1 to go along the rod that i am looking for. any comments would be great to put me in the right direction.

You are probably going to get quite a large variety of rod recommendations. 

 

For open water lipless baits & medium depth baits I use a 7 to 7'6" MH moderate stick.

 

For shallow lipless baits in & around grass, I use a 7' MH fast rod.

 

And for true Deep baits I use a 7'6" plus MH or H Moderate glass or composite rod.

 

So you may be looking for more than 1 rig here.

 

As for the Brand, it's whatever tickles your fancy & your wallet.

^^What he said. Those are 2 very different baits and, personally, I wouldn't throw those baits on the same rod. For my traps I like my glass rod but for deep divers I like a firmer rod so I'm not working so hard. I couldn't imagine throwng a big billed bait on my glass rod. That's just me though.

If you're asking for a brand or model, check out the Dobyns Champion and St. Croix avid. Those are two of my favorites. Both are excellent rods that come with an excellent warranty as well.

I'm not a dobyns fanboy, but the champion series cranking rods are the real deal! 765 or 805 would be perfect for you.

I agree with the first 2 comments, you're looking at 2 different rods here. 

I use a med-mod rod for most of my lipless and a medhvy-fast rod for deepdivers.

What you are saying about deep divers does not make sense. Deep divers have a lot of resistance so the more bend in your rod, the easier it is to retrieve them. A firmer rod makes it so much tougher to fish those baits because of the resistance of the crankbait. What I am trying to say is you don't have to work as hard with a glass rod as you do with a non crankin rod for deep divers.

Absolutely Mike. I should have worded my first post a little different. If I only had one rod to throw both of those baits on, a 7-11 MH Composite crankbait rod would be ideal. I guess I would err on the firmer side for the deep divers and you certainly can throw a trap on that rod as well.

And to Opie, you can see, as AJay wisely stated above, many different thoughts here. I would recommend trying to find a buddy with each style of rod, ask to borrow and try for yourself.
