What is the absolute best suit that can be bought??? And.... What is the best suit for the money??? If they make a suit that will keep water out in a category 5 hurricane I'd like to know which one it is. I'm looking at Simms, StormR Strykr, Frabill...so far.

I have a Columbia rain suit. It keeps me dry but its not for cold weather applications. They do make one's for colder weather though.

Who made your $500 rain suit? Most high end clothing is guaranteed. Cabela's warrants their clothing for life.

What brand was yours? Were you using bibs? Bibs make a difference.

 

I have a West Marine I got on sale for like 200 for top and bottom.  Very high quality, fleece pockets very high fleece lined collar etc.

 

The best you can get will come from the sailing community not BPS, Tackle Warehouse etc. You could easily spend thousands on a suit.

I've been out in some gnarly early spring an late fall weather in my Cabelas Guide Wear and it has always worked great.  Some water will always get in, through the neck, the sleeves  under your wrist, act.

 

Given that, my guide wear has worked great.  I bought mine loose enough that I can wear layers underneath it to deal with the cold.

 

No matter what brand you buy, make sure that you get one that fits the way you want it to - makes a big difference.

The Frabill F3 and F4 suits are great. Mine hasn't let me done.

I have a 100mph suit, not my favorite I've ever owned but it does keep me very dry. 

Bibs, rain suits?

I throw on a water resistant wind breaker, poncho, and hope that I didn't forget to pack my sandals or a fresh set of socks and dry shoes.

Two openers ago it was 34° with a heavy wind. So cold that ice was forming on the rod guides. I guess I could see the want in it in that case. But being young and dumb make for great life lessons down the road.

I've got the BPS 100 MPH parka and it has kept me as dry as a bone. I purchased it last year and really lucked out. Turned out to be one of the wettest seasons of fishing for me. Had to fish in downpours mulitple times and I never got wet.

I suppose you could. The Columbia American Angler or PFG Supercell line is better for cold weather and monsoon type conditions. I own both one of the lighter warm weather suits and also the Supercell parka and bibs. Its great stuff but pretty expensive. Right in line with Simms and the rest where it should be to be honest. The American Angler stuff is quite a bit cheaper. Seems like nice quality for the price point but I don't have any real world experience with it.
