Chatterbaits

Featured Replies

Well... If you're viewing this topic, its safe you assume you like chatterbaits. I mean, why else would you choose this forum to read? :eyebrows:  Anyways, this topic is truly about chatterbait lovers. My question is: What is everyone's favorite chatterbait and trailer? :respect-059:

Actually I opened this topic because I've never caught a bass on a chatterbait and just bought a couple to try this year.  I'll be reading all chatterbait related topics for any tips/tricks.

I've caught a lot of nice fish, night fishing the original, black, Z-Mans. The hooks on those were somewhat less than ''tour grade'' so I'm really looking forward to the new Project Z's.

I'm about to order some project z's. What would the best trailer be for the 5/0 hooks they come with? Can you fit a rage tail menace on it?

I have a og black and blue chatterbait. One of my best producers last year by zman. It was 5 dollars, no hook keeper, hook is okay. Honestly, There are so many variations of it now its too dumb to look. They are going to produce new ones every year to make people upgrade like iphones. I said screw that, went with something that was innovative, the molix lover. Yet to catch anything on it because of cold 40s water, but I'm having high hopes and from what the bait looks like I don't think I will be dissapointed.

It was always fished in murky water. That was the key to it.

Ive done quite well on an origional zman white chatterbait with a chart-pepper zoom fat albert grub trailer.

Project Zman in breaking bream or green pumpkin with a reins rockvibe or bubbring shad in green pumpkin. Sweet combo.

This is a very well made lure.

Trailer: Gambler Flappy Daddy, ZMan Turbo craw

Chatterbait: D&M Original Piranhas or ZMan Custom chatterbait

I prefer chatterbaits were the blade connects directly to the head vs. those that use a split ring.

Had our first tournament of the year tonight. My partner and I threw almost nothing but my homemade ones and ended up winning with 14lbs 11ozs and had big bass of 4lbs 14ozs. I caught all our bigger fish on 2 colors.

If you like the baits with the blades attached directly to the eye, the new Project Z chatterbaits are solid baits, much better components and better built than the originals.

Last night I visited a local Bass Pro Shop and noticed a new addition to the bladed jig section. It appears that Zman is making Chatterbaits for BPS which is selling  them under their own brand. It appeared to be a version of the new Project Z Chatterbait. They looked really well made with some awesome skirt colors. The only downside was the price - $7.99. Maybe I'll pick up a couple to try sometime soon.

I haven't caught many fish on a chatterbait, but when I have it's been an original in sexy shad with a BPS sassy Sally trailer. It actually caught me my first bass of 2015 which I will take as a sign that the chatterbait will be a good bait for me this year.

What are your go-to colors in murky or clear water?
