Do you suppose that they are being phased out?

Hootie

Makes me wonder.

I just found it's a 30 day promotion & I think it runs out Tomorrow 4/30.

Seems like its a 30 day MAP holiday.Probably a way to get them moving. This deal coincided with a massive marketing push on them, as well as giveaways at the Guntersville event and through Dave Mercer/Mark Zona. The #curadocatch contest was a good idea as well.

I am beginning to wonder if they are not selling that well or if the they just made too many.  In any case, it is hard to find another reel to compare it to at that price.

AmericanLegacyFishing has them on sale too. That Shimano reel only has 6 ball bearings.

It seems every month there are a few dealers offering big discounts on popular reels. I think it's about market share and valued sales outlets. a Good philosophy.

Thanks for the post; picked up another 1.  Great bang for the buck.

Shimano's are never on sale unless they're closing them out.  This one has been on sale several times now; no clue why but I'm not complaining.

Shimano reel design is successful without numerous bearings in every model, because they are not necessary.  The new Curado has three bearings on the spool shaft (the new X-Ship feature), one on the draft shaft, a pinion bearing and an anti-reverse roller bearing, all that is needed to do the job.  Of course you can always change the handles for four bearings if you want a nine ball  bearing count.  The Curado bearing configuration is the same as the $420 Metanium, which with the handle bearings has nine bearing with an anti-reverse bearing. Of course the Metanium has higher quality bearings.  If you have not tried a new Curado you will love the reel.

So my recommendation is do not get caught up in a bearing count when deciding on a reel.

awesome post, thanks for the heads up.

Gander has the Chronarch for 160. Is worth the extra 30?
