powder paint

Featured Replies

So I bought the weed guard "Protector" from Do-It put my jigs in the oven, turned on the heat, and melted the weed guard. So now I'm thinking power paint with out the weed guard but the powder paint fills up the hole. anyone have a quick fix? Girl friend works in a salon, she gives me some DARK purple finger nail paint, I paint some spinner baits with it and it works GOOD.

use a couple base hole pins.

heat head

insert pin

Dip

quickly remove pin

PS wear gloves.

If I use a fluid bed will it fill the weed guard hole?

Yes, but not as much

After I use my fluid bed and bake the jigheads, I clean out the hole with a #30 drill bit before epoxying the weedguards in.

If I use a fluid bed will it fill the weed guard hole?

IMO yes.  I've forgot to insert the pin a couple times and it does fill the hole.  This is why I use the pin deal.  Its fast and easy.  No mess no cleaning the pin hole.  Turns out a perfect jig head every time.

I use a 2 part epoxy.  Loctite is a good one.  Really what you need to watch for is how thick it is.  If the epoxy is too thin it will run up the fibers and then dry them together.  Devcon was one of my favorites but its hard to find now.

Marine Goop at walmart is supposed to be good for wg.  I always use Loctite super glue gel in the squeeze side bottle.

I use the loctite super glue gel also.  I have been drilling out the hole after painting, before baking.

You have your order of operations wrong.  It should be Preheat oven, then insert jigheads.  Many ovens are real bad about turning all of the elements on during the preheat stage and it melts the weedguard.  The first set of jigs I baked I actually melted the lead off the hook when the toaster oven was  set at 350. I let the same toaster oven preheat 5-10 minutes and the jigs come out perfectly on that same heat setting.

I heat mine with a Heat gun. Turned up on high it only takes 5 to 10 secs to heat a head and dip it in the fluid bed, I haven't tried the heat guard yet but looking forward to it.

Try heating with a heat gun or torch instead of the oven, I think it is heated to long that way.

here is a video on how to do it. http://www.do-itmolds.com/education/videos.aspx
