Buzzbait!

Buzzbaits  for me too. I fish for fun and smallmouths plus buzzbaits , thats as fun as it gets. I have also buzzed five inch grubs . Smallmouths will jump all over  a buzzed grub .

...it sucks though because I wanna catch em on my spooks

I went years with no luck on Spooks. Now all of a sudden it's my best lure. Well, the Chug'n Spook, Jr. I got 2 fish over 5# in a week on it. I own 4 Spooks. I was thinking of going out one evening with all 4 tied on different rods.

This is largemouth I'm talking about though.

Not my most productive (Skitter Pop) but it is my favorite: Bass Pro XPS "Top Knocker"

I wish it was still made. It has a heavy ball bearing inside that rolls on a track end-to-end. If you twitch it gently just right the ball rolls back and creates a delayed "knock" that shakes the lure and seems to drive any bass looking at it insane. I get some really violent strikes on this. It also casts a mile, even further than a zara spook.

I've caught some nice ones on the Booyah pad crasher

Depends on how much chop is on the surface... my favorites --

Lucky Craft Gunfish 95

Frenzy popper with the bottom of the lip/cup sanded down...  This is a discontinued bait, but Berkley is getting back into the bass hardbait game again and I frequently remind my favorite Berkley product development engineer   what a great bait it was!

4" injection molded tube, T-rigged weightless.  This is a sleeper I'll offer... twitch or walk it across a calm suface letting it sink occasionally.  Dipped tubes don't glide as well as the injection molded baits.

Mega bass xpop is another good option

I like throwing a prop bait - specifically the Rapala Skitter Prop.  Especially in current, 2-4 quick jerks and a pause works great...because the prop keeps turning slightly in the current even at rest.   I like buzz baits too but if you stop they sink.  With the Skitter Prop you can rip or pause and it stays on top which seems to work best for me on the rivers I fish anyway.  Really ticks 'em off ~

In no particular order:

MS Slammer

Lunker Punker (Wood or Plastic)

LC Gunfish 95

LC Wake Tail (think this one is discontinued now)

4 1/2 " Zara Spook,  Flitter Shad pattern.
