Hudd 68 Rigging

Featured Replies

I just ordered my first Huddleston swimbait and I got the 68 top hook. I've heard of people riding it with a stinger and I was going to do the butch brown rig. If there is any other way to rig the 68 I'd be happy to hear it!

Fish it as is. There's no need to BB rig a 6" hudd. You could add a treble as a stinger if you wanted to. Again not necessary though.

Fish the 68 as is.

Top hook is totally sufficient.

I tie it on with a Uni knot. That's about the extent of the rigging.

Agree with everyone above fish the 68 as is! No need for any other rigging works great as is!!

i used to do the butch brown rigging on hudds , the 8'' ones and didnt like the way the hook tore up the bait and constantly trying to get the the treble on top to work right and just started using them as is . the top jig hook works perfectly fine . on ROF 0 & 5 , i rig a treble with a ball bearing swivel w/ split rings , i use clear hair tie rubberbands to keep the hook in position , the plastisol on the hudd disolves the clear hair bands pretty quickly so i'm constatly replacing them but i get them from a beauty supply store for $1.50 per hundred and i usaully buy 3-4 bags so i got plenty !!!

The Hud 68 doesn´t really need a trap hook.

We fish them at a lake managed for smallmouth that is also stocked with trout. It's funny over the years we've had trips where they choked a Hudd but most of the trips we missed more on the top hook than we actually hooked. Haven't missed many there on an Osprey line thru with treble so I'm thinking a stinger hook would have put some more fish in the boat based on how they thumped it hard but didn't get it. This year I'm considering trying the decoy treble assist. Does anyone know anything about this product? It looks like a winner. I might paint the wire if that's possible or necessary but it looks solid.  Is there another pre-rigged stinger out there? I can't find one.

Thanks guys...

The BB rigs work but can tear up a bait pretty good. Once it gets torn it can be tuff to keep the hook positioned correctly. Your better off citing a slot in the top and gluing a rare earth magnet in there to hold the hook. You should probably cut open new hudds anyways to glue the harness to the body so it doesn't pull out. It can be a huge issue and no one like getting a hit and only bringing in half a bait.

Thanks for the feedback guys! Saved me from possibly ruining a $25 lure

I put a stinger treble on a 68 Hudd once. I was really impressed with how well it stuck that laydown that it's still stuck on for all I know.

My fishing partner hangs them up all of the time. There are plenty of opportunities to do that but I don't let them hunt , I just reel slow and steady in open water and do well without bumping into a thing except for Mr brown lips ;)

I stuck a big sycamore with mine I think. Couldn't bring her up from the depths.
