Worst Bass Fisher Ever.

Featured Replies

Hi everyone! My name is Shannon, I am 26 from south west Florida and I am pretty sure I'm the worst bass fisher to exist. I have done almost entirely saltwater and I can catch snook, reds, sheepshead, mullet, jacks, grouper etc. ALL DAY LONG but a bass? Ever so elusive.

I've tried worms. Frogs. Lizards. Shiners. Live bait and lures. Leaders and no leaders. In the am and the pm, same spots different spots. Spots where everyone else catches a bass... BUT NOT ME. I get a couple nibbles, no doubt. But I always end up nearly taking out my companions eye in the effort to set that bad boy. Haven't ya'll ever heard of a circle hook? I digress.

I'm beginning to think I am truly jinxed. I have decided to join these forums in the hope that perhaps help is possible. At the least I can provide a good laugh at my ineptitude.

And maybe make ya'll jealous with some "real" fish. HAH! Just kidding, I'm only jealous because I can't do it. :(

Welcome to the board, I only started bass fishing in late September. The folks here on this site have been a huge help shortening the learning curve. With your background you are well ahead of me already so you should pick up quickly.

There is a lot of info in the forums and on the site so I just started reading and then picking up some appropriate gear/lures and experimenting.

Good luck.

JBW, very interesting, I would like to try this but how are you suppose to rig the bait, Texas rig, Wacky or other? I did not see in post best way to rig the plastics.

Greetings Shannon and Welcome to the forums :)

Thank you so very kindly everyone for the warm welcomes! As for my quarry it is a southern sting ray, 35 lbs shot with my handy dandy compound bow! If you've never tried bow fishing, I HIGHLY recommend it... there is something instantly gratifying about shooting a fish.

Welcome!

Always wanted to bowfish for rays, seems like it would be a lot of fun.

About the black bass... Stop trying to catch them in salt water. That should help a bit.

First of all , to the OP, Welcome aboard!

Regarding the "Guarantee"

Texas-rigged, weightless on a 4/0 EWG Offset Worm hook. The Fat Ika is rigged with the tentacles forward (up or towards you).

Welcome. You can not hold that title in the South East because I do!!!! I get a lot of practice. Maybe one day I will be considered a good bass Angler. So hang in there. Your still young. I'm not.

I just received the senkos and Fat Ika's in mail today so might be able to get out this weekend to try.

Grew up on the Jersey Shore. We had boats and I fished a lot and generally brought something home.

When my kids were little we decided to get them started on fresh water. We had the most luck catching Yellow Perch and Catfish. Over time I started trying to catch LMB. It was a struggle to get that first one but after the ice was broken I generally was quite lucky.

11 years ago we moved to NE PA. The first year I fished a few time and had zero luck. Then I didn't  even try for about 8 or 9 years until last year I bought a little boat. Caught nothing at all last summer but things got better this year. Still it is not easy here in PA, very frustrating. Honestly, I'm really thinking about giving up LMB and trying to catch something else or perhaps take up recreational drinking.

Well I have had success with channel bass, thank you vedy much.

You can have 'em.  They get in the way of my smallies! :laugh5:
