Megabass Warranty/Customer Service?

Featured Replies

I just received an Orochi F6.5-70XX from Bass Pro (last one they had in stock).  After spooling it up and using for the first time, i realized the insert is gone from the tip.  This was causing my line to make a noise and starting to fray.  Of course BPS can't do much to make it right as it was the last in stock and i got it on a big discount.  SO a refund doesn't really work for me and they have no more in stock to swap it out.

Is this something that i should expect Megabass to fix?  I've already emailed them about it, but am waiting on a response.  The rod is brand new so I really don't want to have to get it locally repaired already if i can avoid that route.

Curious if anyone has any experience with Megabass USA Customer Service and if i should sleep soundly knowing they will take care of me or if i should plan on losing another night's sleep?

Thanks all!

They have good CS so you'll be taken care of. As long as it was from an authorized dealer. Here's the warranty info incase you haven't seen it.

Problem is you got it from BPS and not from Megabass USA, it´s BPS problem.

It doesn't have to be bought from MB USA, just from an authorized MB dealer to be covered under warranty.

i agree with you.....  However, BPS has no more in stock.  I bought the rod at less than 50% of the retail, so i don't want just a refund.  BPS was offering to have me send it in to their own rod and reel servicing and i said absolutely not, but thanks.

Yet, at the same time, the insert did come out of the guide which has been taken care of on my other rods from other makers.  Was just wondering if i should sleep soundly and hope that Megabass takes care of me.

Under any "normal" circumstances though i would absolutely be pursuing BPS 100%

It's a bummer when a new item arrives with a defect.

Although you should not have to be dealing with this, a tip top replacement is actually a pretty easy fix.

All you need is a new tip (like 3 bucks) and some ferrule cement. (a Tip-Top/Ferrule Gauge helps too)

Rather than going through the hassle of shipping it, where it could get damaged again anyway, you may want to consider the do it yourself fix.

I'd just fix it myself.

Well, if you don´t ask you will never know, BPS no longer can replace it so asking MB USA isn´t going to hurt, who knows ? maybe they play nice and say you can have it sent for repair. However, it´s not rocket science changing a tip, it´s much bigger deal loosing the insert of a guide.

agree that replacing the tip is easy and i've done it before.  just not on a BRAND NEW $300 rod!

i'll sit back and see if i get any response from MB before i go all DIY on it...

thanks for the input

I know some companies will send out a tip kit.  Perhaps MB would do something similar.

I wouldn't send a brand new 1 piece rod to Megabass to get a tip fixed even if they offer to do it for free.  It's a 2 minute fix, just have them send you a new tip.

you should just have the tip guide replaced , beats having to wait for a new rod from china ....

Just make sure you don't void the warranty if you fix it yourself.

I wish I could find an Orochi XX for $150! :o

I would also just put a tip on, 5 minute job. Awesome deal on that rod man.

Just for the record, Craig at the Dugout did a tip-top replacement right in the store for me a few years back :)

$60 in round-trip shipping on a $5 repair will be a bit difficult to justify, but let us know what they say.

and for the record, i spoke with a CS rep at Megabass and they were most helpful.  They offered to either send me a tip or for me to pay one way shipping to texas and have them repair it themselves.  i know the obvious answer for most is to DIY, but i went with the ship to them route.

i'm just not good with that type of stuff myself and know my own limitations!  i will receive a very reasonable shipping charge on my fedex account so i'm not too worried about that part of it.

very thrilled with the outcome, Megabass was ready and willing to make it right!

Good on them for making it right. It seems the extreme vast majority of "fishing" companies really back their products. I think it is because they are dealing with really great guys...like me!!!
