If you could only use one line...

Featured Replies

one line FOREVER. Mono, fluoro, braid, copoly? What pound test? Feel free to include a specific brand of choice. Also, braid with a leader is NOT an option.

Just one type of line, including the weight of the line, forever.

Good thing we have options and this scenario would never exist.

20lb PowerPro Braid and I would exclusively use spinning gear

30lb Power Pro super 8 slick. I'd just avoid rocks like the plague.

12 lb Berkley flouro.

I hate to say it, but 10lb mono. I hate using it when bass fishing, but it's so darn versatile.

I would have to say 10 lb Trilene XT. Can use it on spinning gear for finesse applications, or you can use it on a baitcaster for about everything.

This may be hard for some of the younger BR members to believe, but before the advent of braided line,  some of us actually hooked & landed very respectable bass from various weedy type cover with monofilament line; and thought nothing of it.

Now, is braid a better choice for this and some other applications, many believe so.   And do I use it for this application now, yes definitely.  But the truth is in the last 3 or 4 years,  every bass I've taken over 8lbs, was landed on mono.

Just sayin'

Man after my own heart. You are all set in case all the line manufacturers go out of business. I have a few spools of my fav line stocked up in my basement!

In practical terms I pretty much have fished with one line for decades:  12 lb Berkley Trilene Big Game.

Spinning-PP 15/4 yellow

Casting-PLine CXX 10#

Braid.

Plus a leader

Spinning - 10 lb FC Sniper, Casting 25 lb FC Sniper  If only one line for ALL reels, 14 or 16 lb FC Sniper, I'd have to think about it.
