favorite hook for tubes?

Featured Replies

what type of hook do you like for tubes? ive been flipping them but it seems like my hookup ratio is way down compared to my other soft plastics. and im doing everything the same. its like the hook is barely hooking them and then they pull off has happen 4 times this year already. the ones do hook its barely in the skin on the mouth like not enough of the hook is popping. i was using a trokar ewg hook.

do i need a wider gap hook?

what hook do you recommend?

Glenn has posted a video on BR that shows the best way to T-Rig a tube bait using a Trokar tube hook. Check it out and it will def. help you out. Eagle Claw makes a less expensive option as well if your looking to save a few dollars.

ill check it out. i most post a pic of the hook later i used

yeah thats the hook i was looking at. much wider than the ones im using. thanks for reply

He also mentions another hook, the HP hook. It's also a wide gap hook without the bend behind the line tie. It has a small clip that keeps the tube from sliding down its shaft.  The down side to that hook is that it doesn't work well with solid nose tubes.

Nore than likely, however, you're  using too small of a hook, or your gear isn't beefy enough to drive what is similar to a worm hook home.  The hooks gap should be twice the diameter of the tubes when it is collapsed.

What size hook would you recommend for a 2 3/4" tube in this Trokar Tnmt Tube Hook? Do you use an egg sinker inside the tube?

Mustad big mouth tube hook. 4/0 for 3.5-4" tubes. 5/0 for flippin tubes.

I use weighted Mustad EWG hooks at times, but any of the tube hooks in the right size shoud work well...Sometimes using a toothpick or piece of heavy line to keep hook in place helps...Trokars are probably the sharpest, but I buy what is on sale and I like using a 5/0 for most tubes I flip...But I swim many on the Mustad EWG with a weight, any swimbait hook should work if right size to match the tube.

Ive uses the mustad big mouth hook and its not different from any of their ewg hooks.  If i dont have a rock solid hookset I wont get a hook in em

I use these to Texas rig the tube with a bullet sinker in front of the bait. ~ size 3 or 4
