Featured Replies

I caught this Bluegill with a Lipless Crank a while back. I've never seen such a thing, has this happend to any of you guys?

All the time, normally not in the mouth though. It's like they get mad and just run there shoulders into my cranks and get hooked. Normally there smaller than the lure itself

I've caught bluegill and pumpkinseed on crankbaits, lipless cranks, jerkbaits, top waters and smaller soft plastics. Most baits I use for bass have also caught a sunfish or two.

I've had bluegills eat about every bait out there, even more so if you throw green sunfish into the mix. I've had some monster bluegills on spinnerbaits.

Go figure......

Caught a nice pumpkin seed sunfish on a scatter rap this weekend. Treble hook in the mouth.

They really like the top water baits with a feather over rear hook.

Keep fishing and your going to catch a lot of stranger fish than that on a bass lure .

Some folks don't seem to believe me until i show them this picture.

Some of those folks that don't seem to believe probably have never gone fishing.

It seems like every kind of fish in my area will hit a square bill or a jerkbait. I caught my PB bluegill on a bluegill colored jerkbait

I've caught a couple of crankbaits, but I love tying on UL lures from Rapala; they seem to all do a number on any panfish.

I had a bluegill no bigger than my thumb smash a 1/8 oz. Rat-L-Trap the other day. Fought like a champ on UL, at least for his size.

I catch bluegill all the while bass fishing, usually at least two or three every trip on the ned rig.  I once even had a big 9 3/4 inch bedding green sunfish break his jaw while trying to eat a half ounce brush guard jig.

This guy hit my jerkbait like nobody's business.

Yes I have caught bluegill on lipless crankbaits, along with other lures meant for bass. They fight better than a bass of equal size and I would probably fish for them more often if they got as big as bass do.

this little guy was hungry. all 3 trebles in the mouth...he was barely bigger than the bait...

Green  sunfish  are pretty  aggressive.

I've  caught 4" fish on 1/2 oz spinnerbaits  with size 6 willow  blade

I caught a 3 or 4 inch Rock Bass on a 2.5 inch crankbait once.

Happens way too often for me on 1 of the lakes I go to.

First time it happened I was shocked.

From what I remember the lure was the same size as the blue gill.

I do see this happen with bluegills and yellow perch with treble hooked lures. I have caught them where they have completely engulfed one of the treble hooks. This makes me suspect that they get attracted to the lure and when they get close enough they may see the treble hook as an item (maybe an insect) that they can eat.

These pictures are fabulous
