That's not where I was aiming!

Recommended Posts

I hear those words more often than naught from my wife when we go fishing. She has a variety of health issues, one of which causes her to have very little strength in her hands and arms. Because of this she can only use a push button spin cast reel, fish a lite bait, like a senko, and only fish for a few minutes before resting. Her casts are a two handed lob, and they often don't  go where she wants. We spend a fair amount of time trying to get her untangled from bushes and tree limbs.

With everything above being said, my wife is the best partner I could ask for, fishing and otherwise. We have so much fun doing just about everything together, and fishing is no exception. We laugh all day and enjoy every moment. I couldn't imagine fishing without her.

My wife also has the best luck I have ever seen. Her errant casts have produced more 4-5 LB bass, in the oddest places, than I have caught, throwing my bait exactly where I wanted it to go.

When she catches a fish it's a mad scramble to hand off the pole to me to reel it in, she doesn't have the strength to do so . Anyone who says a zebco won't handle a big fish, I beg to differ. And yes, some of the pics of me holding up fish are one's she caught.

At the end of this narrative I guess I just want to say how blessed I am to have someone so special in my life, and I hope you all have, or will have the same in yours.

I also hardly ever fish without my wife and I hear that often as well but she has no health issues to blame it on lol. It'd normally my fault for being to close or to far away and I need to work on my trolling motor skills haha. Gotta love em tho.

Fishing with my wife is a double edged sword, she will almost always out fish me, and she doesn't take her own fish off, or bait her own hook, but it's fun hanging out, just the two of us. Jim, your blessed to have such a great wife, I hope you guys have many more years of fishing together!

Sounds to me like she has perfect aim.  She was aiming at your heart and hit it dead on!  :wub:

Thank you for posting this. A man's better half makes the best fishing partner, no one comes close, except for family.

You truly are a blessed man. My wife shares none of my hobbies.

you're lucky that she's right there in the thick of it!!  mine doesn't have the patience required to fish....  my dog on the other hand, now that's a good fishing partner!

Spending time together doing anything can never be taken for granted.

You are most fortunate no doubt ~ but so is she.

As for catching bass in odd places, it's only weird when it doesn't work.

:)

Thank you for sharing.

When I met my wife, she wanted to go fishing with me. We went a few times. She outfished me and I baited her hook with minnows all day. It was great. Once she figured she had me on the hook, so to speak, she didn't want to go anymore. And that's OK too because I'm a loner and want to stay way too long every time.

I remind her of that when she asks me if I want to go shopping (an all day affair with her that involves driving at least an hour each way to some kind of mall where I won't find anything very interesting). I'm glad you two have that bond.

My wife proceeds to out fish me most times when we go. For the life of me I honestly can't figure out how she does it. Lol doesn't matter I guess. She's taken what I've taught her and ran with it. She does well! Doesn't always want to stay as long as me but that's ok. She is the best.

I could have written most of the same....I will say, however, that since she got her own kayak a few weeks ago, it is hard to keep her off the water.

There was a day last summer when she pulled out a buzzbait and tied it on around 1PM.  She'd never used one before and I didn't say a thing as she casted it and let it drop into a laydown and slow rolled it back like a spinner bait.  Second cast, she boated a 3 pounder - big fish of the day....I learned long ago the nuances of teaching...and of letting her figure out what works.  I will NEVER tell her 'that's not how to fish that lure'...LOL

I've heard this phrase used in a deprecatory manner before but in this case, it's meant with the best intentions, "It sounds like you deserve each other."
