Bantam curado cu-200 for heavy use?

Featured Replies

I have a heavy swimbait rod in need of a reel. It would be used for throwing s-waver 200, 8 inch hudds and savage line through.

I have an old bantam in great shape. You guy think this reel can take the beating big baits put on reels? Id be using 30lb mono

If I was to buy something it would more along the lines of a Calcutta but the curado b is a tank of a reel. It'll hold up if you stay on top of maintenance

Curados B are built to last pretty much forever.

I throw smaller swimbaits with a 200B with zero issues.

I have one old Curado left and it only has one job--A rigs.  It has been going strong for 20 years.

Thanks guys i tried it out on a trip. Handled 5 oz baits like a charm. The drag kind of sticks though. Might have to get it serviced

I'd prefer a reel with more power. But the curado b is a good reel and will hold up to it. just keep it maintained

I've got a curado B-200 and it is an awesome reel for crankbaits and swimbaits.  It is a little on the big side, large enough that I can't palm it to the degree that I prefer for jerkbaits and walking baits, but it is my favorite crankbait/swimbait reel that I have ever tried.  To give you an idea of how durable it is, I have one that my grandfather used for roughly 20-30 years and he later passed it down to me.  Even after all of that time and use it's still in great condition, I've never even had to send it in to tuned or cleaned or anything.  So as far as I can tell, they are pretty much indestructible and would be perfect for the swimbaits you mentioned.

Pretty much the only thing that sucks in a 200B Curado is the cheap plastic tension knob cap ( the BSF has an aluminum cap ), easy fix, since they are no longer available you can upgrade it by purchasing the cap from a Castaic, it has been discontinued for a lot less so that part must be readily available. I got my first Curado back in 1994 and it's still perfect, actually, now that the rough edges of the gearing has rubbed away by use it's as smooth as a Chronarch.

Problem will be line capacity and suggest you consider Sunline 25 lb Armillo Diefer Nylon mono @ .016 dia.
