I have a question for all of you swim bait guys.

I am new to swim bait fishing i do not know much about it and all i have right now is a River2Sea S-Waver which i guess technically is a glide bait but it is fairly close in size which was my concern if i could catch bass on that size bait in my area and yes i know the action is different. But i wanted to try get a 6" Huddleston and i had a question on choosing the color because i live in an area where we do not have trout in the lakes we just have your normal bluegill and crappie. I saw there is baby bass, shad, perch, and a couple other colors the baits come in but i do not know what i should choose and if some are for sure better than others so any help would be nice!

Thanks,

Fogle

First off get a 68 special and not a 6". Its a 6" with a 8" tail for better slow speed action. 2-3# bass can easily eat it

Color is not that important. Trout works everywhere. Shasta is a lil clear with blue back/violet stripe and works well.

I agree that a 68 special is probably a better choice, it will still catch small fish as well as big fish. Color isn't super critical. You could probably throw a bubblegum one out there and get bit, but I think a good all around color would be the trout or baby bass pattern. Can't really go wrong with those two. The bass aren't going to look at a trout bait and say "you know what, my records do not indicate that species residing in this body of water, I will let him carry on with his fishy business". They see a sizable meal and eat it.

I like the Hitch and Silver/Black back patterns but I don't think it matters at all.  I agree with getting the 68, it has a better action.

Get the 68, costs the same and has much better kick. Color doesn't matter much, there ain't no trout where I fish the most and it's a productive color, but, if you feel baby bass is going to do a better job I'm the first one to tell you should use it.

I disagree that 68 is better than the 6. I think the 68 is better for warmer temps because of the thump and the 6 is better for a more subtle approach. You decide which one you're going for.

But whichever you choose I don't think the color matters much

I like green shad. I've caught more fish on the plain 6" than the 68.

Cold water you want to crawl it so slow the tail wont move much anyway.

What the 68 does better than the 6" is the over size tail moves the head side to side more when retreived slowly. You get the same swimming action of the 8" with the 68. The color selection, availability is less with the 68, the price is higher. For pond fishing a 6" weedless ROF 5 in baby bass, small deeper lakes the 68 in ROF 12  would be my choice.
