I hope someone can shed some light on this for me. 

 

I've been watching a lot of YouTube videos due to the Cabin Fever so I can try to stay sharp and learn new things. I've noticed in some of the videos when people come across a bass who has a shad, or bluegill, or crappie, or any other fish in its mouth for that matter they remove it.  I want to know if anyone knows a specific reason they're doing this?

If it's stuck it's for the well-being of the fish. Otherwise they're probably looking to see what the fish are eating to attempt to match the hatch.

2 reasons, identify the bait fish and remove it so it doesn't foul up the livewell.

If I see something sticking out of a bass's throat, If it pulls out easy I pull it out just out of curiosity to see what it is/was. The key is if it pulls out easy, I don't go yanking on it. In a tournament situation I leave it alone..........you never know when ounces count, a lot of times they puke it up in the livewell anyways, and there is nothing I can do about that other than observe what it was.

 always check your livewell after fishing if you kept fish in it.. dont want puked up shad cooking in the sun next time you get the boat ready.. had it happen once and that was enough

even if the the food wasnt stuck and the bass was going to finish swallowing it, id think the stress from being caught might change that and create a serious problem after releasing the bass with half a fish hanging out of its mouth. just a theory though.
