$200 Bottom Bait Rod

Featured Replies

looking for a rod that is around $200. I would use it for jigs, texas rigs, light flipping, and wobleheads. also minimum of 1/4 oz tungsten weight. I have a 7'3" MH O M N, but for some reason its just not for me. thanks

IRG744C should do everything you want and save you $50.

I've got a couple St Croix Avids that I've used for bottom contact lures. Never let me down.

Yup. Also, Falcon Cara was built for this.

Never used a Falcon, but I've heard good things on the forums. I'm a Wisconsin boy so it's hard not to fall for the St Croixs. They're everywhere here.

Definitely! Falcons are to us Texans and Southern boys like SC is for you Northern fellas. Used to be All Star also, but they sold to Pure Fishing.

The SCIII blanks are just killer for that price point.  I have several Rage and an Avid X and love them.  Fast, reasonably light, and the blank just feels good.  I strongly recommend an Avid or Avid X (different rods, guides and handle change the way they feel).  For the $200 range, the Avid X is my favorite.  I also have a Fenwick Aetos mod fast that's stiffer than most fast action rods I've fished.  In a fast or X-fast action MH, I'd imagine it'd make a great C-Rig rod.

I throw most of those baits on a Falcon Cara Amistad. It's a bit more than $200, but worth the difference. Also a great c-rig rod.

For the wobblehead I like something a bit softer.

what did you not like about the O M N? what difference are you looking for in another rod?

I suggest taking a look at the Powell 3D Max 723C or a Cashion rod.  I have a Powell Endurance 723 (last generation rod) and it is outstanding for bottom contact baits.

For $200 I'd keep an eye on ebay and the classifieds here.  I bought a 2016 St. Croix Legend Elite 7' MHF rod  just before Christmas for $150 + $30 shipping, so $180 total for a $400 rod.  I've also found Loomis GLX rods for <$200.

Take a look at $300-$400 rods you like and then and find something used.

I would recommend the AvidX or Hammer Rods All American Series.

I like the feel of g loomis  imx rods. a bit more $  have seen used in great condition cheaper tho.

Used Megabass Orochi XX rods can be had for $200-220 on a regular basis.

It seems like your buying every rod on the market.?

Pretty much! Ask a group of fishermen what rod they like and prepare to get 100 answers haha

I just handled a Dobyns Sierra tonight and that is an extremely impressive rod for the price.

I have never liked Gary's rods, but I would fish a Sierra.
