Strike King KVD cranks and jerks are supposedly designed and endorsed by the man himself right? There are a million videos of KVD swapping out his trebles for his preferred trebles, so why do the lures with his name on have trebles he wouldn't use himself? Any chance SK will upgrade their range to full KVD spec?

He's also sponsored by Mustad.

 

So while he's show casing SK & then recommending the Mustad treble hook up grade, he's pulling double duty.

 

BTW -  I'm a huge fan of both but Really wish Mustad would come out with a #5 size Elite Treble.

He throws his cranks 2000 times a day and catches 50 fish in the process. The hooks are good enough for the casual/semi-serious angler, but to a pro at his level they must dull and bend at a much higher rate. The upgraded hooks would drive the price up and I'm sure SK would rather sell a higher volume at a reasonable price.

I think Strike King claim to use VMC hooks, they're usually more expensive that Mustad. Maybe Kevin out to bring his sponsors together and broker a deal between the two. LOL

 

Just strikes me as odd that he promotes a range of lure which he wouldn't use straight out of the packet. All that time fine tuning the action, but nobody mentioned hooks?

I don't change out my SK hooks unless I break one with a plier. But I'm not a pro. I try to keep my hooks sharp though.

Cause everyone knows you need those KVD triple treble short shanks from Mustad.More money for KVD when we have to buy them separate.

I am sick of crappy folks.....would gladly pay more to be able to use them right out of the box

Well, Mustad does put out Packs of Duo-Lock Snap & Ball Bearing Coastlock Swivel with is name on them, and they're not too bad.

So split rings can't be too far behind.

Not to mention that Mustad used to make a line of KVD split ring pliers and in all the videos I have seen of Kevin changing split rings, he has used the Snap-on needle nose pliers.

1.5 Squarebill with KVD triple grip shorts,sitting on #3 Owner hyper rings right out of the package??? Id gladly hand SK 10 bucks for that.

I'd be just fine if they'd knock a little off the price and give me a bait with just the hook hangers. I'll add my own rings and hooks myself and be happy doing it.

KVD is a Salemen , he was talking about his jerkbaits how he had all of them painted a dark Char so he could see the action of the bait when he made 50 & 60 Yard casts , sounded good . He's got good eyes if he can see 50 & 60 yard casts with his bait 6 Ft deep , sounds like a salemens lie to me , He's worth 10 billion dollars but i won't buy nothing just because he has KVD on the package our the bait. That just Me if You love his Stuff i'm glad for You but i'm not buying nothing just because his pictures on it.

A lot of big name endorsement for what. A bunch of China made lures. I have my doubts about how much his involvement really is. The commercials are bogus. I really don't care one way or another. I remember when I was a kid Ted Williams use to have his name all over fishing and hunting stuff I would get for presents. If Strike King didn't attach a name where would they be. The products sort of sell themselves.   

I use SK products because they are without a doubt EFFECTIVE TOOLS.Id buy them even if they put Bill Lowens' mug on the package.

Saw 2 Pro's fishing his KVD Brand & they said they did all the heavy work on the bait , Saw another said he did the work on one of his KVD rods . Sounds like he just adds his name & picture & raise the price. He ain't hooked me.

I'm with you, @NHBull.  I never understood why we, as a community, put up with $10 to $15 lures that need hooks changed and sometimes won't run true out of the box.

 

Hooks are a very personal preference, and will eventually be replaced on lures used enough. Does any company just sell the lure with out hooks/split rings? Mike Shaw said that he'll start selling his slammer without hooks since they're the first to go, but that hasn't happened yet.

 

KVD is trying to make money just like every other pro out there. With out sponsorship's we wouldn't have professional bass fishing.

The smaller bait makers could do this no problem as they do not normally sell to your average walmart individual.  I don't think the big brands will ever do this.

KVD  He's put his name & picture on baits he's worth $ !0 Billion Dollars .

At $5-7 bucks Strike King has their baits reasonably priced for the mass market, for proven fish catchers.  The hooks are good enough out of the package to catch fish, but you're talking about pros that are looking for every edge possible no matter how slight.  90% of the people who buy the KVD baits probably have no problem with the stock hooks, but it's the other 10% that are the enthusiasts that will pay more for better hooks.  I think it's best this way because even among the enthusiasts there's so much variance in which premium hook they prefer (Owner ST, Mustad Triple Grip, Trokar, Gamakatsu G-Finesse, etc) that making their baits more expensive with a premium hook will just narrow their potential customers.
