Old leaky boat

Featured Replies

I have a 12 foot little tri hull fiberglass  boat that a friend gave me in the 80s.It was a great little boat for the small waters I generally fish.

My son used it quite a bit and it began leaking badly,so they patched all the leaks and used it some more. The last time he took it out,it nearly sank the leaks were so bad.

It's been leaning up against my fence for 10 years now.

My opinion is that patching it again is a waste of time.

So what would y'all do?

Thinking about putting in the front with a sign " free boat " but am sort of afraid it might sink and drown someone !

Just want it out of the yard.

My friend cut his old boat up with a sawzall.  He took it to the dump in small pieces.

You could also put it on craigslist with a picture, and for its description say it leaks badly, and that it needs work, free to a good home.  Someone out there might want it and be willing to repair it.

Make it a flower planter put it in the yard

I'm sure most are unaware of the dire firestorm hazard we face  (please rain soon).

Mike, I'm leaning in favor of Jtrout's suggestion, turn that boat into a backyard flowerpot.

Strange but true, I had a friend named Jimmy in NJ who did exactly that with a 14-ft Starcraft Seafarer.

One day in the 1000 Islands, Jimmy flipped his boat (due to a long-shaft on a standard shaft stern).

Jim ended up with long, deep prop gashes in his breadbasket and nearly lost his young boy.

Nearly killing her son, Jimmy's wife forbid him from using that boat again. In the final analysis,

I must say that his Starcraft elevated bed supported some of Jersey's most beautiful flowers   :)

Funny y'all should mention a flower planter!

Fin-n-Feather had an original Skeeter they turn into a planter...how sad a end for a legendary boat!

Put it on a pole in your front yard

Put it out and make sure you note that it leaks.   Craigslist or Freecycle are also possibilities.  Just mention that it needs work and let the person who grabs it decide if it is worth the work.
