Do You Clean Your Rod Guides Regularly?

Featured Replies

There are hundreds of topics on here about cleaning reels, but I rarely ever hear anyone mention cleaning their rods, namely the rod guides, of crust, deposits, or dried lake slime.

I probably should more often, but if they are lucky they get cleaned once a year. If they get really bad I just hose em off when I get home.

I do every time using a q tip, when I spray Line and Lure on the line and reel before every outing.

I clean my guides fairly often.

Every once in a while. Q tips and rem oil spray.

The most cleaning my rod guides get is when wet line is running through them.

i don't clean them, but i probably should every now and again!

Sadly I don't clean my guides unless I notice they have some dirt buildup on them.  Exception is when I go saltwater fishing, in which case I always make sure to rinse and wipe down every guide (and the rest of the rod, and reel).  Salt is no bueno.

I do pretty much the same using a napkin and KVD line and lure.

If ocean fishing every trip when come back, fresh water hardly ever.

Usually if I see something on them I'll stick my finger in there and wipe it off, I normally don't get to crazy about it.

Religiously after every trip I clean everything, even lures.

Not as much as I should!

So it sounds like we're all over the place!

I clean the blank and guides with Bass Boat Saver or Pledge at the beginning of every season, but that's about it.
