I cant get away from using the trusty old jig with a craw or other trailer

Big worms 9" to 13" T-rigged with sliding bulletvweight.

Punch rigs.

Both compliment jigs.

Big worms around flats with structure breaks and brush.

Punch rigs in heavy cover.

I did just recently open up my horizon or broaden my horizon I guess you could say by trying the whole punching thing with good results so far! I like you have been fishing a jig quite a bit this season and end of last season and more specifically at a pond me and little brother frequent often and would always smash them just hoping a jig around the weed edges and just always stuck with due to that mentality of "if it works keep doing it" I eventually wanted to try something new and after looking at those big grass clumps after a couple trips figured ehh what the heck if I'm catching them on the outside imagine what's in the center! so I went to punching those clumps of grass and it paid off so punching can definitely be a solid option to try if thick grass or mats are in the area and you're able to catch them in the edges! it never hurts to try at least and helps the thinking at least on the way home where you start to ponder "I wonder what woulda happened if I punched the mats/grass" but hey if it doesn't work or you feel more comfortable throwing that jig then by all means definitely stick with it, nothing wrong with that at all!

As good as a jig and pig is, there are times when bass will ignore them.  The first thing I try then is adjusting the fall rate, either by going lighter or heavier with the jig, or just switching out the trailer. If that doesn't work and I want to continue targeting the same cover, I switch to a worm with the weight pegged.  It's basically the same presentation, but a different profile.  If I'm targeting deeper structure, I'll grab the old ball and chain and start with a tube or other plastic that resembles a craw and switch to a worm if that doesn't work.  Sometimes all it takes is getting the bait up off the bottom.  If you haven't guessed, I'm not a big fan of drop shotting.

I use All Terrain Tackle Jim Moynagh's Football Jig for most of my jig fishing... This Jig literally Rolls Through Rocks, Gravel, and over Ledges without hang-ups... My primary sizes are 3/8 Oz. and 1/2 Oz. in colors of Moynagh's Magic, Natural Craw, PB&J, and Watermelon/Red Flake... I tip them with a Berkley Powerbait Chigger Craw in colors of Pumpkin Green Flake, Black Blue Fleck, Green Pumpkin, and Watermelon Candy... Sometimes I will also use a 3/4 Oz. jig when fishing extremely deep "Clear Waters"..

Yeah I also really enjoy the All Terrain Jigs. but I prefer the Zoom Z craws

Try some heavy jigs for reaction bites , in mid summer I've had success with 1 oz or 1-1/4 oz Dirty punch jigs or Strike King Hack Attack with Rage Craws or Rage Space Monkeys as a trailer. Sometimes I throw them in the grass but there are other times I use heavy jigs in fairly deep water to generate reaction strikes .

I haven't ever used Zoom Z Craws... I am sure that they work great tipped onto a jig... What is your best color?

Yes I agree with your statement... I use 1 Oz. jigs in extreamly deep waters also...I also use a Zoom Super Chunck Jr. Green/Pumpkin on a 1/4 OZ. Football Bass Patrol Jig in Brown color.

I don't recall who came out with the 1st double tail grub, may have been Mister Twister in the early 70's, they were on of the 1st curl tail worms. Guido Hibon came out with his Guido bug and I believe it was the first soft plastic craw with real looking claws.

Why does any of this matter you ask?...because soft plastic jig trailers rely on movement to entice a bass to strike and the movement doesn't always replicate crawdads. Big flapping claws attract fisherman, bass don't like big claws! Why do they strike big flapping claws?,I think it's because they swim like a baitfish tail and look alive.

GYCB twin tail grub may have caught more bass then any other grub on the market, don't over look it! I have had good success with Berkely's Chigger craws when bass are targeting bluegill. I believe the Chigger craws unique swimming motion that the claws alternate like a human legs swimming action triggers strikes when other double tail grubs don't.

I have observed the Strike King Rage Tail Lobster in my swimming pool and their claws move violently even in slow motion... The slightest movement will make the claws go crazy.... Bass are primarily sight feeders they rely heavily on their lateral line to find food...

Rage Tail is named for it's patented Ridged tail that has very fast movements at slower speeds moving a lot of water. If that is what the bass react to then it's a good choice.

One time I tried a aluminum pop tab as a trailer on my jig and it didn't work...

Aint that the truth ,

I throw jigs without a trailer. Fish dont seem to notice. Only time i throw a trailer on is when i need a little more weight

It's a real PITA fishing a jig and pig.....I'm constantly having to bend down to lip a fish.
