Is there a difference between all the different brands of tungsten weights

Featured Replies

I'm going to be making the switch to tungsten worm/flipping weights after fishing with tungsten jigs I'm sold on the whole tungsten thing.

is there a difference between all the different companies that make tungsten weights? I see some say 95% tungsten, 97% tungsten etc. are some brands better then others?

I would like a brand that the finish on the weight can take a beating the lead weights I use now (bullet weights brand) after a few casts the finish is already chipping

If there is I can't tell the difference. I just look for the best deal.

I'm actually waiting on some more information from companies about the percentage of pure tungsten they use in their tungsten products. Once I get it I'll be happy to post the findings here for everyone.

The only part I worry about is if they require an insert.  The strike king weights have never cut my line so I am happy with them. Paint has no issues either

I made a bulk order with a group of buddies direct from a factory in China. Bought a bunch of 1/2oz tungsten flipping weights for $.87 each. I'm set for quite awhile on tungsten unless I go to Florida or somewhere I need magnum punching weights.

I have been buying my tungsten from Omfishingsinkers.com for maybe a year now. Their prices are the best I have found, but the shipping times can be a little long. I was a little worried about the quality at first, but spent an evening checking them with a qtip and didn't find a single rough spot.  They offer free shipping at $40, so I order up to that price and if they suddenly dissapear then I am not out too much money.

I wish tungsten was less expensive.  It works better and its better for the environment...but at several times more expensive than lead, it's just not a reasonable/practical option for most fishermen.
