I took a little hike over the weekend and happened upon this beautiful little lake.  Well, more of a glorified pond really.  About 8 acres or so.  Absolutely crystal clear water but the entire thing was covered with this really, really thick green grass/moss stuff.  It started at the banks and went the entire way across.  There were plenty of points, low hanging trees, submerged brush and logs and it looked to be a prime place to fish.

 

So.  How would you approach it? 

Texas rigged weightless Senko type worm , with a large heavy hook .

Look for little pockets or channels that run within the weeds. Then do what scaleface said.

I'd be throwing a senko around those weed edges (texas or wacky), and I'd also be working a weightless Fluke around those area's too.

Frog.

 

T rig baits in pockets of the muck.

I'd throw a frog, weightless senko on straight braid in any pockets or holes, and I would punch with some beaver styles baits 

The small lake is down about 1 1/2' with what appears to be shallow perimeter aquatic plant growth with some moss. You could use surface lures along the weed break line like weedless spoons, frogs, buzz baits etc. The deeper areas a soft plastic worm rigged weedless should work, if the lake has a bass population?

I would fly line a weedless plastic. Frog looks like an excellent option as well.

I was thinking either a weightless trickworm/senko on the grass edges or flip a creature directly in the grass...... If that doesn't work and bass are active I would burn a swimbait (keitech paddle tail) with lightly weighted hook across the top of the grass. 

Weightless senkos ,trick worms, or pit boss.  If the senkos sink into the moss too fast I'd switch to a stick worm with less salt.  Looks like you could effectively fish all kinds of topwater baits.

Most all have mentioned a weightless worm---but try this little trick. A white weightless T-Rigged Zoom trick worm with a 4.0 or 5.0 EWG hook and skin hook it. Use some ""Red"" Spike It and dip about an inch of the tail and a few short streaks up and around all sides. I call it the "Bloody Kotex". LOL Try fishing it with short snaps of the rod, like you would with a jerkbait. Try fast and slow, let the fish tell you what action works best. This is one of my go-to baits for clear/mostly clear water over grass.

I've tried that.  It only works a few days a month.

A weedless t-rig is the obvious choice, but I would throw a surface bait to see if anything wanted to come up and play

Nasty...but true. Only I'd try the bubble gum color first. If they won't take that or lime, I'd go to the old watermelon. On second thought, with the water so clear, I'd go with watermelon. And I might try to get there early or late and try the frog.

When throwing plastics I like to use a weedless hook on a c-rigged wacky rigged senko or  Brushog. You could toss a weightless or splitshot 6" worm too.

Thanks for all the ideas, guys.  I'm heading out there again tonight with my dad and I'll give these all a shot and see what I come up with.
