What know do you guys use for braid to fluoro leaders? I've found the Alberto knot to be easy to tie and works great.

A search on that subject will make your eyes bleed.

Yep, lot of talk on that subject. Stay with the Alberto  knot if it works for you, works for me.

Alberto or FG knot are my go-to's. If you are comfortable with the alberto now I would stick with it.

Yup.  I'm kinda surprised we don't have a sticky topic for this.  Comes up a lot.

I have been using "blood knot" with good success lately with 11 loop on braid/8 loop on FC. 

 

I also use both Alberto and Uni/Uni knot  

Also consider the Blood Knot. Very easy to tie. 

Alberto or modified Alberto for me 

I use them on my saltwater lines as well

rarely failed me. Lines broke before knot failed and they are pretty small also 

Fairly new to using braid and after reading up on it I went with the FG. After a couple hours of watching videos and practicing the knot 10+ times I feel comfortable and very confident with the knot. Biggest win with that knot is the smaller size. 

FG knot is the best I have used so far.

Agree on the FG knot. I find it easy a tie, but some people don't. 

 

The diameter of the finish knot along with its tested strength is what got me looking at it to begin with, it has lived up to its reputation.

 

FG knots go through line guides find even micro guides with lower diameter line. 

crazy alberto for me .. I have used f g knot and its a good knot also , but alberto is easier to tie for me 

I use the Alberto and started with the double uni.  Both work I can tie the alberto faster but had a few learning slips along the way.  I have never had a uni problem and in the beginning before I figured out the Alberto I went back to the uni as a confidence knot.  

Call me crazy but the FG knot is just fun to tie! I prefer it over the crazy Alberto because I get inconsistent knot sizes that run clunky thru my guides sometimes. Plus I had a crazy Alberto knot fail and break when I set the hook hard on a super Fluke (user error possibly).

 

I have ever had a slip with the FG when using 12 lb powerpro and copolymor leader and I've  practiced the FG enough that I can tie it at night with ease. After that initial granny knot, it's crucial to pull hard on the main line and leader tag end to tighten that coil. I pull so hard as if I'm almost trying to break it off. Then, I tie three more granny knots. 

 

Applications that I don't like to use the FG knot is with very small diameter lines when connecting 8 lb nano with 4 lb fluoro. Any recommendations here for a good connecting knot? If not, I'm just going to toss out the nano and go 100% 4 lb Sunline FC Sniper for my ultralight gear. That stuff rocks!

Go with the one you can tie the best/easiest. For me that's the double uni.

That's the key, right there.

 

Try them all, go with what works.

 

All the facts about which one is the strongest and which one is the smallest isn't going to help if you can't tie the knot well, on your boat, on the water.

 

Overall strength probably doesn't matter much - most of us are fishing with line more than heavy enough to get the job done.

 

Knot size doesn't matter much (unless you're using really heavy line, or you have microguides).

 

Go with what you can tie the best.

Anybody use the surgeon's knot? I decided to experiment with leaders as I've been using either straight braid or mono. I went with a mono leader all this year tied with a surgeon's knot. Not one breakoff at the leader knot.

It's a good knot, but can be kind of a pain with a long leader.

It's pretty easy to remember and I can't see all that well anymore. I could do the surgeon's knot without looking.

Sounds like good reasoning to me. 

 

...I just used surgeon's knot to splice in a new rope for the dog out back. 

FG------Tie the braid to something and free up whatever your holding it with (teeth) it'll also help keep tension on the braid which is a must for the FG knot.  Instead of making a single loop at each end make 2 wraps per side. It speeds up the process greatly with no loss of knot reliability. Practice it a few times that way and you'll see it can be tied in a minute or so.

I use the Blood knot on my rods with regular size guides and the Albright/Alberto for micro-guide rods.

And as far as the FG knot; you know what the FG stands for?
