Brand new motor falls off boat

Featured Replies

I just bought a brand new 2016 Honda 9.9 horse motor a couple weeks ago and yesterday was the first time I took it out. I was coming home 4 miles from my exit and the motor fell off the back of the boat. It was run over by a semi and is totaled. The transom on my job boat was marine wood and it slipped off going down the road. I tightened both of the knobs well before I left the dock to return home and they didn't budge. We fished all day and didn't have a problem. 3k down the drain. Oh well atleast no one got hurt. Moral of the story don't buy nice things if your name is jitterbug

Wow ~

Sounds like no one got hurt.

But I bet that truck driver was pretty upset.

Are you covered for whatever damage there was to the truck ?

Truck just kept going, if there is a claim filed my car insurance will cover it, but no one stopped after they hit it. Multiple semi drivers kept running it over

A little late; aluminum transum pad plate prevents the outboard mounting pads from sinking into the wood and loosening. Another item is a saftey chain that clips onto the tightening handles, goes under the transum center support stringer to keep the engine from vibrating lose and falling off. Bolting the engine onto the transum is another option if you don't remove it every trip.

Your home owners insurance may cover this type of accident.

We always used a long shackled padlock through the motor bolts. Kept someone from stealing the motor and from the bolts vibrating loose.

Your homeowner's insurance might cover it if your boat insurance doesn't.

Darn $%@%^

Totaled? Naaah....that'll buff right out!

Seriously though that sucks. There's some good info here to prevent that from happening the next go around. Glad nobody was hurt.

WITh ice, Please give me your address. I will send you some money for a bottle of that buffing compound you use!

Must not be a 3M product?

For only 74 1/2 easy payments of 361.01 I'll send you a 3/10 oz bottle that will have that thing looking like new in no time

A heavy duty cable strap through the holes in the handles will work well, in a pinch.  If the handles have holes, like they always used to.  But the best solution is a lock that keeps the handles from turning, by themselves or a thief.

Man, what a bummer, I really feel for you.

WIGuide, can I get a second bottle for a nominal handling fee?

What a DEAL!

Well that went south fast...

Sucks
