I'm 200 miles inland from where Hurricane Harvey made landfall. It's been raining for about 24 hours at my house. It just keeps raining. Surrounding communities are performing water rescues right now as areas that have never flooded are being swamped by all the rain. Peoples homes have 3-4' of water now because the water can't drain fast enough. 

 

I bet Houston is even worse, but I haven't seen any updates. 

 

I'm keeping an eye out in my neighborhood. I don't dare go to bed just in case. I'm on a higher lot so I'm not worried about my house, but neighbors may need help getting to safety. I'll be happy to take people in if necessary.

The latest update from The Weather Channel is predicting another 2' of rain in Houston

over the next 48 hours. Estimated total rainfall is +/- 5' (60"). Tracking predictions are

all over the board, but we might be looking at the storm moving south back into the Gulf,

picking up strength and re-targeting Houston. If Harvey returns to the Gulf and moves further east, New Orleans comes into play...BIG TIME.

Isn't this like the 4th or 5th time in the last decade that Houston has flooded?  I read that most of the city actually lies below sea level too, which makes it hard to drain properly when gulf moisture arrives.  I'm afraid these catastrophic weather events are only going to get worse and more frequent along the coast.

Yeah it's been kinda like that here too. Tuesday may be a different story though. According to my Accuweather app Tuesday is when we'll have tropical storms. Glad y'all are safe down there.

I've been watching the weather channel, Houston is getting pounded. I lived there for quite a while, my prayers go out to them and all affected by the storm. 

y'all stay safe down there and keep us posted.

My MIL lives in McQueeny on the Guadalupe River. They were evacuated early yesterday and haven't been allowed to return.

The Cajun Navy is being mobilized to head to Houston!

Good one @Catt  I came across this topic and it showed your post but not the meme. I clicked just to find out or ask what in the heck the Cajun Navy was lol.

The Cajun Navy is a group (200+) Hunters & Fisherman with all types of boats capable of running shallow rescue. They can mobilize faster than any government agency, they organize their efforts with local law enforcement in outlying communities.

 

They are also experienced in dealing with livestock?

That's awesome. I just thought it was neighbors helping neighbors, which it is but never new it had a name or was a group.

Huge cities definitely need lots of help, supplies, food & water so do rural areas.

 

If residents in rural areas live in houses that are not flooded but have roads the are impassable the Cajun Navy shuttles food & supplies. 

 

There's a lot people who do not live in the Houston city limits!

Clyde and the other team members and teams are all safe. Looters decided to pose as people needing rescue and they attempted to overtake the boats and there were shots fired at the boats. I repeat they are all safe. Looters must have not wanted our boats in the water for rescues. Please feel free to share this post. We are currently on stand down pending a new strategic plan.

Interesting fact I heard on my local weather in Michigan last night. Harvey has dumped enough rain (as of Tuesday morning) in the Houston are that it would raise Lake Michigan 3.5 feet! That is just unbelievable, and there's more rain yet to come. 

Wow is all I can say about that 12poundbass!

 

I think anyone who has been on Lake Michigan or lived near it would find that an astounding fact!

A game warden friend posted that some rescuers accidentally ran their airboat into power lines tonight. They're suspending night rescues because of the danger.
