Daiwa Rod broke. Warranty?

Featured Replies

Caught a dink less than a pound and while trying to land it the rod tip snapped.

I dont think I abused the rod while doing so.

I bought the tatula rod under a year ago, will they honor the claim or will they say it was from abuse?

Plain and simple- if you fished the rod and caught pretty much anything between now and then, it broke because of damage sustained during ownership and not a manufacturer's defect.

Only you can honestly say whether that's the case or not.  Maybe it sat in your closet untouched BNIP for all that time, but it's not likely.

I broke the tip of a Daiwa rod on a big pike, and they honored the warranty.

I've found in the past, that manufacturers understand their warranty process better than the random members of a message board on the internet...

I had a tip that an insert popped out after having it for a few days. They sent me a new tip free of charge, but it took months to arrive in the mail.

Unfortunately, I couldn't find a tip small enough to fit it anywhere else.

I thought you only had a broken rod? What's wrong with the other rod and the reel?

well i had another rod, a 3 piece ardito that i snapped a few months before that. i kinda thought it was my fault trying to un snag my lure and it broke. never really dawned on me that Daiwa might replace it.

and when the clutch broke on the reel i just bought a tatula  to replace it and figured it was an upgrade.

Ive never really sent back any stuff to any company. i thought it was too much of a hassle but i figured why not this time. i do feel that the tatula rod shouldnt of broke and  was kinda annoyed when it did.

just received a brand new reel  a few days ago and was told they will be sending me 2 new rods soon.

im glad because if i didnt get what i thought i deserved i was definitely was going to abandon the daiwa brand.

I'm glad to hear that they are taking care of you.

Sure seems to be a lot of broken rods around here.  Glad manufacturers are backing them up.  I know that I, for one, went forty years without breaking a rod....I've now broken four in the last couple years; two brand new ones.  I gotta wonder if overall quality is down...or are sacrifices for sensitivity and weight so great as to create fragile rods...or maybe just me and my perception....I will admit that some of those unbroken rods of my past were steel ...or 1/4" diameter uglysticks, lol....but not all of them.

Boat flipping is not what rods are designed to handle.  Custom rod builders fight this battle all the time.  High sticking during landing and boat flipping is neglect and the big companies may choose to try and keep you by replacing the rod.

How come most of the time the fish that gets away is a PB, and the one that breaks the rod is 1 lb?

Almost 5 years later....and I've broken at least 3 more.   The problem is...me.

But, I will say that Dobyns, Fenwick and Pure/Abu customer service folks were all a pleasure to deal with
