Favorite lunch when fishing?

Featured Replies

I'll generally get McD or something beforehand.  I'm on foot so I don't carry much.  If I get on a good bite I'll often stay out too long until I get loopy from not eating. I more than make up for it afterwards, though. I'll frequently stop at Steak'n Shake. Not the best nutrition, I know.

First off - I fixed that one for you ~ :P

Second, as to "the Myth" - back in the day of sailing ships - old timey sailors avoided bananas on boats because they emit Ethylene which causes other fruits around them to ripen quickly (and then to rot).  Which on a long voyage is not good.

Also I think there was a highly venomous "banana spider' that hid in the bunches & was killing deck hands on these ships as well.

Can't say how that turned into a "Bad Luck" thing.

I was told by a biology professor that the bananas are picked green and shipped to the US. Once here, they're packed into 18 wheeler trailers in a huge warehouse and the doors are left open. There ethylene is sprayed and they're shipped out early the next day so they start the ripening process right then. But it is correct that they'll help ripen other produce around them because they then have an extra dose of the natural plant hormone. If you pick something out of the garden too soon you can help it along by keeping it close to bananas.

muscle bars, power bars, things like that. water, gatorade.

Boudin!  ?

Man, I just found a place up here that has it!  It is a Texas bqq joint and the owner is from east Texas.

I almost never eat when I am fishing, I have a big breakfast and power through the day.

I rarely eat unless it is a 12 hour plus day and then I will usually just eat a protein bar.  Sometimes i will take a hoagie with me though if i decide to pack a cooler for some reason.  I usually don't want to stop and eat and since i am a kayak fisherman, it isn't like i can eat while moving from spot to spot.

With an 8 year old fishing partner, I ALWAYS have a small grocery stores worth of grub to keep him happy. If the action is good, I sometimes have to tell myself to stop and eat something, or else my little garbage compactor won't leave me anything to eat.

Coors Light

Water, clementines, granola bars... I'm typically the snack guy on the boat

Last time, I brought a pumpkin pie.

Monsters, Gatorade, and water for drinks

Lunchables (turkey and cheese) for lunch

Ritz crackers with cheese for a snack

Probably best if you have a little age on you if you know what nabs are.

Boudin!  ?

Boudin might be messy, but smoked anduille halved lengthwise on some french bread with a dab of mayo might be a darn good snack out on the lake.

I usually bring a few protein bars and a bag of trailmix.  And a lot of water bottles.

Burritos is a staple for me when I fish three bean and cheese from Taco Bell or dell taco usually with mild hot sauce or sometimes my wife makes egg and potatoe burritos I drink water most of the time.

Sando and Agua.

I rarely fish for more than 6 hours so it's usually just a cold breakfast sandwich and a PBR pounder.  But while up at Rangeley lake salmon fishing with my girlfriend, she packed us salmon salad sandwiches w/cheese and spinach from the fish we caught the day before.  That would have to be my favorite one time lunch.

I avoid anything sweet. Even most granola bars have too much sugar. I usually snack on salted peanuts, jerky, crackers, and Powerade Zero.

cold pizza all the way!!

I always eat a good breakfast and then on the boat it is:

Coffee, water and Jolly Ranchers.

Sometimes, a pepperoni roll makes it on there.

My wife usually packs me homemade tacos. Eggs, bacon and potatoes with some hot sauce. Plenty of water, apples, protein bars and Powerade. I don't play....10-12 hrs in the FL sun ain't no joke.

Somebody is spoiled rotten!

I can't even imagine what my wife would pack for me, probably some tofu, brown rice and something that tastes like dirt.
