Trying to identify this fish...

Featured Replies

Not sure what happened to this fish today, but I saw it barely moving and kinda floating in the small pond around 10:30ish this morning. It tried to swim a little but kept floating back on its side. Either it recouped or got eaten by something because later on when I went back by that same area it was gone. Guess it could've sank. Really don't know. The first fish I've seen in this pond besides largemouth bass. Tried looking it up. The closest thing I thought it looked like was a warmouth. Is that what this is?

yep definitely looks like a bluegill

bluegill. more than Likely that is what the bass are eating in the pond.

I believe that is a Jackall Gantarel Jr. in the Spawn Gill color.  You see, I was around the corner from you and had just made a cast when I noticed you eyeballing my glide bait.  You didn't grab it, but later on I caught a 5 year old child and a Great Blue Heron using the same technique.

A female bluegill. The females are that drab yellowish/brown color, while the males are generally much more colorful with an orange chest and green to black sides.

Pronounced "breme"  or "brim"?

It's a bluegill! They can catch the big ones if you are into live bait fishing.

Not sure if we can use those for bait here in Louisiana. I'll have to check my handbook.
