Line for Alabama rig/Swimbaits

Featured Replies

Ive been seeing mixed answers on this topic, and im looking to purchase a setup for fishing Swimbaits and A-rigs.  The rod I am getting is the iRod genesis 7'10 A-rig special, the reel is a 13 fishig ***.  As far as line goes, should I go with 50-65lb braid, or 20lb cxx/hybrid? Thanks!

You will probably get alot of mixed opinions.  I'd personally go with 20lb flurocarbon

Were I to cast an umbrella, it would be on65 braid or 25 lb Ande.

After losing a nice swimbait on suffix 832 50lb, I switched to 25lb big game for all my swimbait that are 2 oz or more, 15 lb big game for smaller ones as light as 1 oz, I still catch quite a few bass when I use these baits, but I'm also not using a typical swimbait rod that everyone seems they need, so my hooksetd are solid using mono.

My small swimbaits such as 4.8 keitechs I use 10 lb maxima ultragreen.

I love the A rig. I know a lot of folks that throw it on braid. I don't, 20 or 25lb mono works fine for me .Usually big game.

#40 braid with #15 fluorocarbon leader.

:animals-52:

20Lb cxx

Why would you use a leader on a A rig ?

No need for a leader for an umbrella rig.  I throw it on 50# braid.  Swimbaits however, are thrown on 20# CXX.

50# 832 and fluoro/mono leader for swimbaits and straight 50# for A-rigs.
