Pflueger Supreme XT spinning reel

Featured Replies

Hello all,

I came across a gift card to amazon and decide to use it on a new spinning reel. I am looking at the Pflueger Supreme XT. Anyone use it before? I have read a review that any braid over 15 is hard to get through the line guide and gets stuck, I dont know if that is true or just a bad review. I am going to get a 350 size and use it for Salmon, Steelhead and Pike. I have a St. Croix premier 7ft medium heavy for it.

Great reel. I have the 30 size for drop shots..

I have a few of those, and they are fine reels.

What line guide? There is no line guide on a spinning reel.

Don't have the supreme xt but I have two president xt size 30 and they have been solid so far.

I have three 25’s and two 30’s.  They’re light and smooth as silk.  The only spinning reel I like better is my Patriarch XT (which I bought only because Gander Mountain had it 50% off at the time).

The line guide thing has me confused as well? Spinning reels have a bail, not guide like a baitcaster. I have several from the 25 to the 35 sizes and they are all great reels. I have 20lb braid on a couple of them and there is no issue with it coming off the reel.

It is possible the review you read was about the Supreme XT "baitcast" reel, not the Supreme XT "spinning" reel.  Even so that reviewer is full of it.  You came to the right place to get the truth.

It was on pflugers website of the spinning XT, they gave a 5 star review and then complained about it.

I have 2 in the 30 size. Couldn't want no more in a spinning reel. love mine.

I don't know what to tell you then.  Just because something is Online doesn't mean the person putting it there didn't make a mistake.

They all know what you mean.  I have a Trion, which is a big step down. I gave it a favorable review on this site. Someone told me that they have a problem with braid wearing into the line roller (that's what my exploded view drawing calls it) on the bail. I've been using it for 3 seasons, always with 20# braid, so they must have gotten that worked out. Reviews for Pfleuger spinning reels are usually very favorable.

They probably meant the line roller as the reel ess suspects. It can be roughly seen as the part of a spinning reel that “guides” the line back onto the spool.

The reviewer was full of bull. My wife fishes nothing but spinning reels. Of the 6 rod and reel combos she loves to fish with 5 are Pfluegers. Four of her reels are Presidents, one is a Supreme and one is a Symetre from Shimano.  The only reel I would not buy her again is the Shimano.  I am holding my breath on that one as many of those reels lock up.

I wish i gone with a Supreme instead.   They are excellent reels.  Hers has 40 pound braid and is on her Dobyns frog rod.  No trouble there at all.

I'm a Supreme fan but feel the XT doesn't warrant the additional $50.

I have one of those and one Patriarch.  Two best spinning reels I have ever used. They are nearly identical with the only real difference being weight. The drag on them is as buttery smooth as anything I have seen.  I drop shot with them on 6# line with the drag set to 2 pounds.  Last year I hauled in a 12 pound Musky with that set up and I am not sure that would have been possible without such a quality reel.  Some of the runs that thing made were mind boggling but the reel handled it perfectly.  I just stood there speechless as the fish peeled drag like I wasn't even there.  Was a great fight.

I just sold my President LE 35 and bought a second Supreme xt 30 spinning reel, I love my first one. I will be switching from mono to braid this year. What is a good braided line?

For spinning reels, I’d go nanofill 14lb or 10 pound powerpro. Can’t go wrong with either

Thanks

I have been using the Sufix 832 Braided Line Ghost at 10lbs line.

Its been great as I can watch the move knowing that something "took" it.

If the line is green, I cant tell and i would have to based on "feel".

Pfleuger supreme xt is the best spinning reel I have ever used!

I agree 100% pmoneyfishing

Thanks Burke. Never thought of Ghost braid or braid that thin. Will have to try that
