I've been fishing a 5acre spring fed lake near for over 20 yrs. Years ago, I was skunked on poppers, slim minnow baits, and other slower moving Topwaters. Enter the Zara Spook. Big, quiet,but always moving, I began to get solid hookups. Now, its one of my very favorites. It took me some practice to get this bait down. Myself,  I've stuck with the standard models. Fave colors are frog, bass, and one I think is discontinued-  shore minnow.  I haven't tried some of the high end Japanese models, but have heard good things.I use a 6ft casting rod, medium, and 12 or 14 pound mono. What are some of your Fave models, and what setup do you use. In my humble opinion, one of the greatest lures ever produced.

I'm a Spook fanatic and have been for years. Glad you 'discovered' them, BUT don't discount those other style top water baits, you can work them fast also even walking a popper. for that matter fishing the Spook slower around cover is something I don't see many anglers do and that's a mistake.  One of my most productive retrieves when walking the dog, is to work it at a moderate to slow cadence up to a piece of cover and stop it. If I don't get bit, I'll twitch it once....still no response and I'll work it as fast as I can away from the cover.  If there's a fish holding nearby, it's game on.

I think the spook worked so well for me was because the bass didn't have a lot of time to look it over. Medium fast movement but still moving. I love fishing them

Don't overlook the Tiny Torpedo in clear...use it a lot in the marsh when fishing with a buddy...he claims the bass think it's a shrimp...don't know about that but he does catch a lot with it... 

Don't overlook any clear or natural colored walking baits, poppers or props. If the wind comes up or it's low light, you can go louder. Calm conditions = subtle topwaters. Windier or low light = more aggressive. It's a general rule, not an absolute, but it works.

Whopper Plopper in a baitfish color would be a bait I'd try. A fast moving Spook is tough to beat in clear water though. 

Try an Evergreen SB-105 or the bigger 125. These baits are a little pricey as they're JDM but man, very high quality and super easy to walk or pop, casts a mile. Highly recommend!

For the clear water I fish I like my Spooks and Ploppers in White (bone) Black (loon) Perch, bluegill and baby bass colors.

Clear water fishing isnt  one of my strengths . I have a friend in southern Missouri who  claims to do well with a  clear Boy Howdy in gin clear water .

Bone or clear blue are my go to colors in clear water.

I throw the same Python colored Popmax or one eyed Sammy 115 in MS Am. Shad irrespective of water color or clarity.

Around here six foot visibility is clear . Other than buzz baits these are my top " clear " water lures . That vintage Rebel is the size of a Spook .
